JD Vance compares Pete Hegseth's confirmation to Ohio State's title: 'Doesn't matter what the score was'

25 January 2025 at 13:59

Vice President JD Vance cast the tiebreaking vote to confirm Pete Hegseth as the next U.S. Secretary of Defense late Friday and might feel a bit like Ohio State quarterback Will Howard.

Vance, an Ohio State alum, celebrated Hegseth's confirmation with an anecdote that referenced his alma mater's recent 34-23 national championship victory over Notre Dame.

"As I learned with the Buckeyes just a week ago, when you win the championship, it doesn't matter what the score was. We won the championship on this one. We've got a great Secretary of Defense. We're proud of him, and he's going to do a great job," Vance said.

Vance has been on a roll with sports analogies lately.

After former President Joe Biden falsely insisted the Constitution had been amended to include the the Equal Rights Amendment as the 28th amendment, Vance mocked that notion with a baseball comparison.

Vance responded to Biden's declaration in a post on X, joking that Biden should put the late disgraced MLB icon Pete Rose in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

OHIO STATE'S EMEKA EGBUKA REFLECTS ON HOW BUCKEYES RALLIED FROM MICHIGAN LOSS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

"Hey Joe if we’re doing fake s--- on the way out can you declare Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame?" Vance wrote, in reference to an infamous baseball debate. Rose, MLB's all-time hit leader who died in September, was banned from the sport for life for illegally betting on games.

Vance, meanwhile, got to witness the Buckeyes' first national title since 2014 the same day he and President Donald Trump were inaugurated. Vance has been a proud, vocal Ohio State football fan throughout his political career as a former senator from the state.

Vance even joked about skipping Monday's inauguration to watch the Buckeyes take on Notre Dame in Atlanta.

"Hopefully everyone is cool with me skipping the inauguration so I can go to the national title game," Vance joked in a post on social media.

During the campaign, Vance revealed he told Trump his loyalty to the Buckeyes might affect Trump's chances of winning the key battleground state of Michigan.

"When he first asked me to be a VP, I was like, 'Well, you know, hopefully we don't lose Michigan by like 900 votes, because you're going to regret it. 'Cause it's probably just a thousand p---ed-off Wolverine fans who wouldn't vote for a Buckeye," Vance said during an appearance on OutKick's "The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show."

"But I think that most Michiganders are going to be able to put sports rivalries aside and put the country first, which is what, of course, all of us believe is the most important thing."

The Democratic National Committee attempted to exploit Vance's connection to Ohio State with a campaign strategy in Michigan in early September. The DNC flew a plane over a Michigan football game Sept. 7 with a banner that said, "J.D. Vance [loves] Ohio State [plus] Project 2025."

However, the Trump-Vance ticket ended up easily carrying Michigan.

Hegseth, 44, a former Minnesota National Guard officer who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, secured the role to lead the Pentagon after weeks of intense political drama over his nomination and public scrutiny of his personal life.

The Senate was deadlocked at 50-50 with three Republicans — Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; Susan Collins, R-Maine; and Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. — joining the Democrats in opposing Hegseth's confirmation.

The stalemate forced Vance to cast the tiebreaking vote, securing his confirmation.

"It's not the first time the headline reads, ‘Junior enlisted Marine bails out junior Army officer,'" Hegseth, a former Fox News host joked, referencing Vance's previous service in the U.S. Marine Corps.

GBI agents spotted at CFP National Championship Game as part of buffed security following New Orleans tragedy

20 January 2025 at 16:44

The College Football Playoff National Championship Game is set to kick off in Atlanta on Monday night, and the city and state have buffed security measures to ensure everyone at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and its surrounding areas are safe and secure.

Among those with boots on the ground are agents of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, as they posted a picture of two agents on X.

"GBI agents are in Atlanta today ensuring everyone stays safe during the CFP National Championship game," the post read. "If you see us, come say hi! Please prepare for the weather and stay safe and warm."

Atlanta’s weather is cold, with an expected low of 17 degrees on Monday night. And the GBI agents reflect just how cold it is, as they are bundled up from head to toe.

Gov. Brian P. Kemp issued a state of emergency "to ensure appropriate resources are deployed" due to the below-freezing temperatures.

NOTRE DAME, OHIO STATE MEETING IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH FAITH AT FOREFRONT

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, as well as Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, highlighted increased security measures for the title game, which is being hosted at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the second time since its inception.

While the city has seen this event before, the tragedy in the early hours of New Year's Day on New Orleans’ historic Bourbon Street led to increased personnel and precautions before Ohio State and Notre Dame kick off. New protocols were incorporated into the extensive preparation for this event.

The terror attack in New Orleans came hours before the Sugar Bowl, which was postponed to the following day as a result.

"Everyone in the Atlanta Police Department will be out working," Chief Scheirbaum said, per local 11 Alive.

Chief Scheirbaum confirmed that multiple specialized units and visible police presence will be seen at and around the stadium. Specialized units from the Atlanta Fire Department will also be around the city for rapid response situations.

It’s a busy day for Atlanta as their Martin Luther King Jr. Parade to honor the civil rights leader on the federal holiday took place earlier on Monday. It required enhanced security measures as well, with street closures that would eventually transition into the college football festivities.

Ohio State's late scoop-and-score catapults Buckeyes to national championship over Texas

10 January 2025 at 23:29

Whatever Ryan Day said to his team after losing to Michigan obviously worked.

After calls to fire their head coach after Thanksgiving because of their fourth straight loss to the Wolverines – and this one easily the worst – the Buckeyes are off to the national championship after Friday night's 28-14 Cotton Bowl Classic win over Texas.

After Ohio State took a 21-14 lead with 7:02 to go (on a drive that included a huge 4th down conversion), Texas got down the field quickly in response, largely in part to a 34-yard catch by Gunnar Helm. After back-to-back defensive pass interferences in the end zone, the Longhorns had a fresh set of downs at the goal line. It was a matter of time before the game was tied, but then, a nightmare occurred for Texas.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

After getting stuffed on first down, Quintrevion Wisner lost seven yards on a second-down toss, putting Texas in trouble. The third down pass fell incomplete, and on fourth down, Ewers lost a fumble that was forced, and picked up, by Jack Sawyer, who took it 82 yards the other way for a touchdown.

In what seemed to be like another overtime game for the Longhorns, their season flashed before their eyes with the snap of a finger. In hopes of a miracle, Ewers threw a pick on their next drive, and just like that, it was all over.

The Buckeyes got on the board first, scoring a touchdown right after stopping Texas on 4th down. The Longhorns offense was stalled throughout the first half, but they tied the game with 29 seconds left in the half, and were ready to go into the locker room with the game knotted at seven.

Ohio State, though, was not. Right after a touchback, Will Howard dumped a pass off to TreVeyon Henderson, who got some blocks up front and scampered 75 yards to the house, giving the Buckeyes a 14-7 lead into the locker room. It's rather easy to point at the two plays that cost Texas their season, with hindsight being 20/20.

Both teams exchanged punts for most of the third quarter, but with just over three minutes to go, Ewers found Jaydon Blue for their second touchdown connection of the night, tying the game. But then came the Buckeyes score to make it 21-14.

Prior to the game, it was revealed the Ewers said he expected to be playing in the NFL next season, so it will be interesting to see if his plans change.

Now, it'll be the eighth-seeded Buckeyes against No. 7 Notre Dame on Jan. 20 – score one for the expanded playoff.

Just like Ohio State, the Fighting Irish suffered an embarrassing loss of their own this season, dropping a contest at home to Northern Illinois back in September. But, it's been 13 straight wins since then.

Tommy Tuberville slams 'woke corporations bowing to terrorists' during Sugar Bowl after terror attack

3 January 2025 at 17:47

Alabama Senator and former college football coach Tommy Tuberville released a statement on Friday expressing his frustration with the presentation of the Sugar Bowl on Thursday, one day after a deadly terror attack in New Orleans killed at least 14 innocent people.

Tuberville, who coached in three Sugar Bowls, including two as the head coach of Auburn, called out ESPN for not broadcasting the national anthem before the game and instead airing a controversial video message by Allstate CEO Tom Wilson, who urged Americans to "overcome addiction to divisiveness."

"It was my distinct honor to have coached in three Sugar Bowls during my coaching career. American sports, and especially college football, have always been a patriotic tradition that brings ALL AMERICANS together. Unfortunately, ESPN (who is owned by Disney) gave in to the woke mob last night by REFUSING to air the National Anthem and instead played a video of the Allstate CEO talking about ‘divisiveness.’ Yet, he failed to condemn the terrorist who brutally killed [14+] people," Tuberville said.

"This was a chance for us all to come together. But instead of honoring the innocent lives lost, these woke corporations bowed to terrorists."

Tuberville then referenced President-elect Trump's recent electoral victory as evidence that Americans are done with "woke ideology."

"November 5th was a mandate from the American people. Woke ideology lost. Get on board with America First or get out," Tuberville said.

Notre Dame defeated Georgia 23-10, but much of the discussion during the game was centered on Wilson's controversial video statement. Allstate, the official corporate sponsor, and Wilson have come under fire across social media for the statement, and the video has since been deleted from official Allstate pages.

SUPERDOME WELCOMES SUGAR BOWL FANS AFTER NEW ORLEANS TERROR ATTACK

Allstate provided a statement to Fox News Digital on the statement.

"To be clear, Allstate CEO Tom Wilson unequivocally condemns this heinous act of terrorism and violence in all forms. We stand with the families of the victims, their loved ones and the community of New Orleans. The reference to overcoming divisiveness and negativity reflects a broader commitment to fostering trust and positivity in communities across the nation," the statement read.

The suspected attacker has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar. The FBI is working to determine Jabbar's "potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations," after an ISIS flag was found affixed to the truck.

Jabbar's younger brother told the New York Times that he and his Army veteran brother were raised Christian in Beaumont, Texas, before the now-deceased attacker converted to Islam as an adult.

"What he did does not represent Islam," the younger brother said. "This is more some type of radicalization, not religion."

Retired FBI agents Scott Duffey and Chris Swecker told Fox News Digital that Wednesday's attack could embolden ISIS, other terrorist groups or individuals who have been radicalized.

"This is a time where ISIS is under extreme stress and their existence is being threatened in Syria and elsewhere. It would make sense for them to double down on their message to radicalize Americans to put them into action and activate any cells that they have in place," Swecker said.

The attack in New Orleans came nearly two weeks after a suspected terror attack on a Christmas market in Germany and the same day that an explosion went off outside of Trump Tower in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kirby Smart reacts to inactive Georgia player drawing bizarre penalty in Sugar Bowl loss: ‘Undisciplined’

3 January 2025 at 10:20

It was a moment that Georgia cornerback Parker Jones surely wishes he could have back.

The redshirt sophomore went viral on social media Thursday night for all the wrong reasons when he cost the Bulldogs 15 yards despite being inactive for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against Notre Dame.

The bizarre penalty was drawn during the second quarter of the Sugar Bowl with both teams scoreless.

Quarterback Gunner Stockton connected with wide receiver Arian Smith for a 67-yard gain before getting taken down on the sideline. However, it was who Jones took down on the sideline that caused the penalty.

Jones, a Georgia native, was animated on the sidelines cheering his teammates on when an unsuspecting official collided with him. Jones had crossed the sideline and drew an interference penalty, erasing the play and pushing the Bulldogs even farther back.

Head coach Kirby Smart, seemingly unaware at the time of who drew the penalty, addressed the incident with reporters following Georgia’s loss.

INACTIVE GEORGIA PLAYER DRAWS PENALTY FOR BIZARRE MOVE IN SUGAR BOWL VS. NOTRE DAME

"Very unfortunate. We had a – they said a coach, but I think it was a player who I’ve been told [was] in the white. The white is reserved for the officials," Smart began.

"That’s a safety concern. Most of the time they’ll grant you a warning on that, but it was a situation where it cost us 15 yards. We still had first-and-10 and didn’t take advantage of it. But, again, I call those things undisciplined, self-imposed wounds that you lose momentum on. It’s something you can’t have happen."

All things considered, it was probably the best response Jones could have hoped for.

However, it was not Jones’ lapse in judgement that led to Georgia’s downfall in the playoffs.

Georgia outgained Notre Dame 296-244, but went 0-of-3 on fourth downs, 2-of-12 on third downs and allowed a 98-yard kickoff return to open the second half.

ESPN doesn't show national anthem, U-S-A chants ahead of Sugar Bowl after New Orleans terror attack

3 January 2025 at 07:30

The 2025 Sugar Bowl was delayed until Thursday as the host city of New Orleans was hit by a deadly terror attack on New Year's Day. During the pre-game ceremony, the stadium held a moment of silence for the victims, after which Georgia and Notre Dame fans came together in a powerful stream of loud "U-S-A" chants.

The scene highlighted the power and unification of American sports. Yet viewers of ESPN, which exclusively carried the broadcast, were unable to see the moment of silence, the chants of "U-S-A," or even the national anthem.

ESPN neglected to show any of the three across the air.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Too bad the players didn't kneel during the anthem in the name of "Black Lives Matter." ESPN would surely have shown that, as it did during the NBA playoffs in 2020.

OutKick asked ESPN about the decision not to carry the anthem ahead of the Sugar Bowl, to which we have not heard back. We will update this story if the network responds.

The Daily Mail chronicled the overwhelmingly negative response to ESPN's decision ahead of the Sugar Bowl. Here are some of the more notable reactions:

SUGAR BOWL'S CORPORATE SPONSOR CEO SLAMMED FOR 'ADDICTION TO DIVISIVENESS' STATEMENT AFTER TERROR ATTACK

ESPN already comes into the evening facing criticism for its coverage of the attack on Bourbon Street, during which police say a suspected terrorist with an ISIS flag in his vehicle killed 15 people and injured dozens more.

ESPN referred to the news as a "truck attack," as if a monster was not behind the wheel of the car.

Shades of 2021 when CNN blamed a "car" for the Waukesha, Wisconsin Christmas parade massacre during which black nationalist Darrell Edward Brooks Jr. drove an SUV through the parade, killing six people and injuring 62 others.

In fact, ESPN was still downplaying the news as a "truck attack" almost 24 hours later during the 1 am "SportsCenter," hosted by a creepy, obsessive DEI hire named Stan Verrett.

Damn those self-driving cars. They keep running people over.

Anyway, don't expect ESPN to show any highlights of the "U-S-A" chants either. Instead, expect the network to return to its regularly scheduled programming of using race to pressure NFL voters to give Lamar Jackson the MVP over Josh Allen.

Notre Dame's Riley Leonard thanks fans for coming to Sugar Bowl in New Orleans after terror attack

3 January 2025 at 06:56

The show went on in New Orleans roughly 36 hours after a terror attack hit the city.

In the early hours of New Year's Day, at least 15 people were killed and dozens others were injured after Shamsud-Din Jabbar allegedly drove a white pick-up truck into a crowd of people in the French Quarter.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl was set to be played just a couple of miles away on Wednesday night, but it was postponed to Thursday afternoon.

Despite the delay, the Caesars Superdome was packed, as Notre Dame took a 23-10 victory over Georgia to advance in the College Football Playoff.

It was unclear for at least a little while about when, and potentially even where, the game would be played. However, albeit with security heightened, all went normal during the game on Thursday.

After being named the Offensive Player of the Game, Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard thanked the Fighting Irish fans for coming out to the game in what surely is a confusing and scary time.

OHIO STATE QUARTERBACK WILL HOWARD UNABLE TO TAKE ROSE BOWL CELEBRATION STAGE: 'THEY'RE BLOCKING ME'

"It’s been a very hard week. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families affected a couple days ago. We’re praying for them. But for all these Notre Dame fans to show up anyway, it means the world to us. We felt them all game, I promise you," Leonard said to ESPN on stage.

Before the game, there was a moment of silence for the victims, and chants of "USA" rang through the crowd after the national anthem.

Jabbar's truck was flying an ISIS flag during the attack. He was killed after a shootout with police.

Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen from Texas, drove a rented Ford pick-up truck with weapons and a potential improvised explosive device (IED) into a crowd of New Year’s revelers at approximately 3:15 a.m. local time on Wednesday, killing at least 15 and injuring more than 30 others. Authorities said other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter.

Authorities say Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran who recently held a six-figure job, opened fire on law enforcement officers, who returned fire, and was declared dead at the scene.

Notre Dame draws back-to-back running into the kicker penalties to open Sugar Bowl

2 January 2025 at 16:34

It was a rough start for Notre Dame in its College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against Georgia Thursday.

The Fighting Irish began the Sugar Bowl with back-to-back penalties on defense and another on quarterback Riley Leonard on Notre’s Dame’s opening drive.

Defensive lineman Bryce Young, a true freshman, was called for back-to-back running into the kicker penalties after colliding with Georgia punter Drew Miller. The first resulted in a 5-yard penalty, but the second penalty was declined.

Things didn’t look much better on Notre Dame’s opening drive.

Leonard was called for an illegal forward pass after he made two pass attempts. His first pass was deflected by Georgia junior Mykel Williams. After he caught the ball that ricocheted off Williams’ hand, Leonard attempted another incomplete pass.

LOUISIANA GOV WILL ATTEND SUGAR BOWL, VOWS SUPERDOME IS 'COMPLETELY SECURE'

The game was tied 0-0 after the first quarter. Georgia’s defense limited Notre Dame to 24 yards in the first quarter. Leonard completed just one pass for 14 yards. The teams traded field goals in the second quarter.

The Sugar Bowl is being played in the Superdome in New Orleans Thursday after being postponed a day after a deadly terror attack on Bourbon Street that claimed the lives of at least 15 people and injured dozens more.

Ohio State quarterback Will Howard unable to take Rose Bowl celebration stage: 'They're blocking me'

2 January 2025 at 16:08

Will Howard played a huge role in Ohio State's 41-21 victory in the Rose Bowl, but his celebration was cut short.

After the eighth-seeded Buckeyes advanced to the College Football Playoff semifinals, members of the team took the stage with roses in their mouths.

However, Howard was too late to the party and was never able to join his teammates and head coach Ryan Day.

Several people, including some Buckeyes, tried to inform those in charge that he was the quarterback who had just thrown for 319 yards and three touchdowns. But a man blocking the entrance stood firm in not allowing Howard on board.

"They're blocking me over there," Howard said. "There's a weight limit, apparently."

The Buckeyes handed top-seeded Oregon its first, and only, loss of the season after getting out to a 34-0 lead.

BROTHER OF EX-COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYER KILLED IN NEW ORLEANS TERROR ATTACK LEADS TRIBUTES

Howard was 17-for-26 and threw three touchdowns, two of which went to Offensive MVP Jeremiah Smith. Smith's two touchdowns were a part of his seven-reception, 187-yard performance.

Oregon had defeated the Buckeyes, 32-31, earlier in the season.

Ohio State is headed to the Cotton Bowl Jan. 10 to face No. 4 Texas for a berth in the national title game. The Longhorns barely advanced earlier Wednesday, holding off Arizona State 39-31 in a double-overtime Peach Bowl.

The fourth and final spot in the semifinals will go to either No. 2 Georgia or No. 7 Notre Dame after Thursday's Sugar Bowl. The contest was postponed a day after a terror attack in New Orleans, less than two miles away from the game's location, Caesars Superdome.

Arkansas lineman accused of purposefully hurting Texas Tech player breaks silence after ridicule

30 December 2024 at 19:29

Arkansas Razorbacks offensive lineman Fernando Carmona was ridiculed after video caught him stepping on the ankle of a Texas Tech player during the Liberty Bowl over the weekend.

Carmona broke his silence on the matter, apologizing for what transpired.

"I’d like to apologize for my actions last Friday night in the Liberty Bowl," Carmona posted on X. "I let me emotions get away from me. I have nothing but respect for Texas Tech and the game of football. I apologize to my team and coaches. I’m not that kind of player and will learn from this."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Many took exception to Carmona stepping on C.J. Baskerville’s ankle, and the thought it was done intentionally was put out there. Some even said they wanted him "banned forever" from the game.

Carmona’s actions led to immediate pain for Baskerville. Meanwhile, Carmona tried to play it off like he was helping a teammate off the turf.

Baskerville accused Carmona of committing a "dirty" play.

"There’s no denying that Arkansas played a great game last night, I am not taking that away from them. But #55 Fernando Carmona blatantly stepping on my ankle and pressing down on it on purpose is straight up dirty," Baskerville wrote on X on Saturday.

"Proceeds to say "got your b**** a***." Do better."

This incident occurred during the fourth quarter of the Razorbacks’ 39-26 win over the Red Raiders to win the bowl game.

Baskerville was Texas Tech’s leading tackler in the game, too, with 10 total as well as one pass deflection. He had 52 total tackles with four interceptions in his senior season.

Carmona is a junior who spent the 2023-24 season with the San Jose State Spartans before transferring to Arkansas.

Miami teammates fight on sideline during Pop-Tarts Bowl

28 December 2024 at 20:09

From what we all see on social media, the Pop-Tarts Bowl is full of hilarious content.

But there appeared to be an incident during the game Saturday between two Miami Hurricanes that led to blows.

Senior Simeon Barrow Jr. and freshman Marquise Lightfoot were separated after Barrow Jr. threw a punch and Lightfoot shoved Barrow.

The Hurricanes did not want to play Saturday. They had controlled their own destiny heading into the College Football Playoff, but after losing to Syracuse in the final week of the season, they were knocked out of the ACC title game, and eventually, the tournament.

The brouhaha came after a high-scoring first quarter in which the Hurricanes allowed 21 points to Iowa State. The Cyclones won the game, 42-41.

Cam Ward, a likely first-round selection in the NFL Draft, only played in the first half, exiting the game after Miami had regained a 31-28 lead before halftime.

After the game, a Pop-Tarts mascot was "toasted," and the Cyclones were given a toaster trophy.

It's the first time the Cyclones have won 11 games in a season.

Game MVP Rocco Becht scored from a yard out on fourth and goal with 56 seconds remaining for the game-winning touchdown.

Becht finished with 270 passing yards and three touchdowns for Iowa State (11-2), a program that entered this season having never won more than nine games in a season.

Navy denies Oklahoma victory in Armed Forces Bowl after stopping late 2-point conversion

27 December 2024 at 16:34

Navy held on to beat Oklahoma 21-20 in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Friday.

After Oklahoma quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. connected with tight end Jake Roberts for a 10-yard touchdown with under 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables decided to go for the win.

Venables sent his offense back out to the field down 21-20, and the Navy defense slammed the door shut.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Hawkins was in the shotgun, was immediately overwhelmed by Midshipmen defenders in the backfield and eventually was taken down for the game-sealing sack on the two-point conversion attempt.

Oklahoma started out red hot, ending the first quarter up 14-0 after running back Gavin Sawchuk ran for a 21-yard touchdown and wide receiver Zion Kearney caught a 56-yard touchdown pass.

The Midshipmen then scored 21 unanswered points, starting in the second quarter.

FORMER CENTRAL MICHIGAN QUARTERBACK TOMMY LAZZARO, 27, KILLED IN HUNTING ACCIDENT

Navy fullback Alex Tecza then ran in for an 11-yard touchdown for Navy, cutting the Sooners' lead to 14-7.

In the third quarter, quarterback Blake Horvath rattled off the longest run in Navy’s history.

Horvath faked a handoff, dashed into the open field and took off for a 95-yard touchdown. He was initially ruled short of a touchdown as he was taken down right at the goal line, but a replay review ruled it was a touchdown.

Horavth’s 95-yard scamper tied the game at 14 with 3:49 left in the third quarter.

The previous record for the Midshipmen came during the Roger Staubach era, when Johnny Sai had a 93-yard touchdown run against Duke in 1963.

Horvath later found the end zone again, running it in from 6 yards out to give Navy a 21-14 lead.

Horvath completed seven of 12 pass attempts for 92 yards, while rushing the ball 18 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns.

Tecza carried 15 times for 43 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Hawkins played well in the loss, completing 28 of 43 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns while rushing 17 times for 61 yards.

Sawchuk added 13 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.

With the loss, Oklahoma finished the season with a 6-7 record.

Navy ended its season 10-3.
