Cowboys' Dak Prescott expresses hope for team's future as Eagles, Commanders surge in NFL

12 February 2025 at 09:00

The NFC East was showcased in two of the final three games of the 2024 NFL season.

The Philadelphia Eagles topped the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship before eventually defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

The Eagles had a veteran team with an incredible defense that tormented Patrick Mahomes all night on their way to a win. The Commanders got very close to making the Super Bowl for the first time in over 30 years with a rookie quarterback in Jayden Daniels.

With Philadelphia and Washington being the talk of the NFL, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott expressed optimism on Tuesday about his team’s chances of making their mark.

"I feel like we've competed with the Eagles and beat them for the most part when we've played them," he told reporters at an event for the upcoming Children’s Cancer Fund gala, via ESPN. "I don't want to say, 'Check the record,' when the other guy is holding the trophy, right? So credit to them. They've earned it, and they deserve it by all means. But, yeah, [we're] very close."

Dallas did suffer a rash of injuries during the 2024 season that took them from a 12-5 playoff team to a fledgling 7-10 team.

JETS GAVE AARON RODGERS ULTIMATUM ON 'PAT MCAFEE SHOW' APPEARANCES: REPORT

"Especially even watching the NFC Championship and those two teams -- teams that we battle against each and every year a couple of times," he added. "As I said, [I] feel confident that we've gotten the better part each and every time. But just seeing such a dominating fashion, credit to them. It's our turn, and it's on us."

The Eagles routed the Cowboys in both of their matchups in 2024. Prescott did not play in either game as his season ended in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Dallas had a wild win over Washington in Week 12 but lost in the season finale against them.

The Cowboys will enter the 2025 season with new head coach Brian Schottenheimer at the helm and a few question marks as star players like Micah Parsons in trade rumors.

Former Cowboys star Dez Bryant told Fox News Digital he did not expect Dallas to be back in the fold anytime soon.

"I don't expect the 'Boys to be good for the next couple years. You need good role players, you need more star players, especially in today's NFL. Teams are loaded. You can't have just one receiver. You got teams with three ones, two ones. The Cowboys only got one one. And the rest might be threes. I don't see us getting better." he said.

"It's not anything personal. It's just the writing on the wall."

Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb sounds off amid teammate Micah Parsons trade rumors

11 February 2025 at 13:31

Micah Parsons put together another strong performance this past season. The Dallas Cowboys linebacker recorded 12 sacks despite missing four games in his fourth NFL season.

Parsons is set to play the 2025 season on his fifth-year option before he is scheduled to become a free agent. The star pass rusher would then be free to sign with another team, unless his representatives and the Cowboys' front office are able to reach an agreement on a contract extension.

While Parsons' future remains uncertain, trade rumors have already started to swirl – much to the displeasure of one of his current teammates.

SUPER BOWL LIX SHATTERS VIEWERSHIP RECORDS AS MILLIONS WATCHED EAGLES WIN

A report from NFL Media recently surfaced saying "some internal discussions" have taken place among the Cowboys brass about the possibility of including Parsons in a trade. Dallas star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb apparently caught wind of the report, and questioned whether there was any fatigue concerning discussions about Parsons.

He also suggested that having Parsons on the team gives Dallas the best opportunity to win games going forward.

"Y’all aren’t tired of this? Every offseason, top of the charts… Let’s just win ball games and that’s with 11! SMH," Lamb wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Parsons is scheduled to make $21.324 million this upcoming season. While he is listed on the Cowboys' roster as a linebacker, he lined up at the defensive end position for the majority of the team's defensive snaps last season and was tagged as such.

San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa's roughly $34 million represents the league's highest annual salary for a defensive end.

Lamb and Parsons will be under the guidance of a new head coach when they report to training camp in the coming months. The Cowboys parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy last month and promoted Brian Schottenheimer from his offensive coordinator post to head coach.

Shedeur Sanders reacts to possibility of father coaching Cowboys

15 January 2025 at 09:56

Shedeur Sanders is likely to be one of the first quarterbacks taken off the board and whichever team lands him will have an intriguing storyline before the start of the season.

For now, all eyes are on his father as the Dallas Cowboys could be trying to lure Coach Prime from the Colorado Buffaloes to the NFL. The elder Sanders had been adamant about not going to the pros unless he could coach his sons.

Dallas has the No. 12 pick of the draft and would likely have to make a move up the board to be in line to select Shedeur Sanders if that was a part of the whole plan.

The star collegiate quarterback spoke briefly with the Dallas Morning News as he attended the Dallas Mavericks-Denver Nuggets game on Tuesday night.

"I think it would be cool. What do you think?" he told the paper.

The Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy after five seasons as the two sides couldn’t agree to a new contract. Dallas has the opening but at least one former player doesn’t really consider it a "coveted job."

Troy Aikman made his thoughts clear about the situation on Monday.

DEION SANDERS HAS 'LEGIT' CHANCE OF COACHING COWBOYS BUT UNDER SPECIFIC CONDITIONS, SUPER BOWL CHAMP SAYS

"I thought Mike McCarthy would be the head coach, so this is a bit of a surprise for me today that he’s not going to be… It suggests that there's not a real plan," he said before calling the playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings.

"I do think the Cowboys are obviously a high-profile team. Whoever is the head coach of that team is certainly going to draw a lot of attention, but I think most football people that take over as a head coach they want to do it on their terms and that’s hard to do.

"I love the Dallas Cowboys. I played there for 12 years. I wish them well. To say that it’s a coveted job, I’m not sure I would necessarily agree with that."

Deion Sanders didn’t exactly pour cold water on the notion of taking the job. He confirmed reports Monday he talked with team owner Jerry Jones.

"To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing," Sanders told ESPN. "I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community."

Deion Sanders 'should be the No 1 choice' for the Cowboys as head coach, NFL legend says

15 January 2025 at 09:54

The possibility of Deion Sanders becoming the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys got the NFL world fired up earlier this week as the team parted ways with Mike McCarthy.

Drew Pearson, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Cowboys star, hopped on the Sanders train and expressed his support for Coach Prime going back to the pros to roam the sidelines for the team he won a Super Bowl with in the 1990s.

"I think he's capable," Pearson told TMZ Sports. "There's no question he has the qualifications to do it. He paid his dues. He came through the ranks, and he's proven it each step of the way that he knows what he's doing.

"He's had success in the coaching ranks, from high school to college," he added. "So why can't he be a successful coach in the pros? I think he should be the No. 1 choice for the Dallas Cowboys."

It is unclear how much interest there is in the Cowboys signing Sanders to become the head coach. Sanders has been adamant about staying at Colorado unless he could coach his sons in the NFL.

He confirmed reports that he talked with team owner Jerry Jones about the job but did not exactly say he would not jump at the chance to coach the Cowboys.

"To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing," Sanders later told ESPN. "I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community."

Cowboys, Mike McCarthy agree to part ways in stunning move: reports

13 January 2025 at 11:33

The Dallas Cowboys and Mike McCarthy reportedly decided to part ways after the two sides failed to agree to a contract extension.

McCarthy and the Cowboys couldn’t agree on contract length and with the one-time Super Bowl champion head coach’s deal set to expire this week, the two sides will separate, the NFL Network reported Monday.

McCarthy is reportedly expected to have interest from other teams. The Chicago Bears were rumored to have requested an interview with McCarthy but were denied. Now, McCarthy could interview with the Bears or other teams.

ESPN reported the New Orleans Saints were also expected to have interest in McCarthy.

He became the head coach of the Cowboys before the 2020 season, taking over for Jason Garrett, who had spent 10 years at the helm. Though McCarthy went 6-10 in his first season, he saw some success when the team was healthy.

Dallas was 12-5 and won two division titles from 2021 to 2023. The team made the playoffs each year but failed to get back to the NFC Championship, which has eluded them since they last won the Super Bowl in 1995.

The Cowboys saw Dak Prescott’s 2024 season end early and the team couldn’t recover. The Cowboys were 7-10.

It’s unclear who the Cowboys will target now. Team owner Jerry Jones has made his ambitions very clear about winning another Super Bowl.

Dak Prescott’s fianceé has $40,000 worth of goods stolen from car: report

30 December 2024 at 17:28

Burglaries involving athletes continue to rage on, and just the day before Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic’s home was broken into, the fianceé of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had things stolen from her car.

Dallas-based WFAA obtained a Dallas Police Department report, which stated Sarah Ramos had close to $40,000 worth of items stolen from her vehicle.

The incident occurred this past Thursday, when she admitted she "rushed inside" for a Pilates class due to inclement weather, leading her to forget to lock her car door.

After the class, Ramos returned to her vehicle to find several pieces of property taken, and she told police that she "was notified that her credit cards were being used at [another] location."

The items that were stolen the day after Christmas include designer wallets and handbags from Chanel, YSL, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Prada, per WFAA. Computer software and cash were also stolen.

There have been recent reports of burglaries involving athletes, including Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce with both of their homes burglarized last month.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow experienced the same thing, and Doncic had his home broken into on Friday through his back master bedroom, per WFAA. A necklace worth $4,000, earrings worth $14,000 and four rings worth $5,000 were reported stolen.

For the NFL, they quickly issued a league-wide memo warning of burglaries that were believed to be linked to an "organized" group.

In the memo, obtained by the Associated Press, the league issued a security alert to teams and the NFL Players Association, warning that pro athletes in different sports were becoming "increasingly targeted for burglaries by organized and skilled groups."

At the time of the memo, NFL Network reported the FBI was investigating the crime spree, which they believed was "tied to a South American crime syndicate."

Law enforcement officials say the suspects conduct extensive surveillance on their targets’ homes and have even posed as groundskeepers or joggers. Some have even attempted home deliveries.

The memo urged players to take special precautions, including installing home security systems. They were also encouraged not to post live updates of their comings and goings on social media or showcasing their expensive items online.

Prescott’s engagement to Ramos was revealed in October, one month before he suffered a season-ending hamstring injury against the Atlanta Falcons.

The two share a daughter together, Margaret Jane Rose Prescott.

Eagles, Cowboys players brawl in tunnel after play, 3 ejected from game

29 December 2024 at 16:38

Three players in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 41-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday weren’t on the field to see the clock hit triple zeroes as the team in Kelly green wrapped up an NFC East title.

Eagles safety Sydney Brown and Cowboys cornerback Troy Pride Jr. and wide receiver Jalen Brooks were all ejected from the game after a Philadelphia punt with 2:32 left in the game.

As the three players were in the end zone, Brooks and Brown started the skirmish. Then Pride got involved. Brown dragged Pride into the tunnel and tackled him down. It took a moment or two to get things under control.

NFL officials threw flags on the play and each of the three players involved was sent to the showers early.

Brown had one tackle in the game. Sunday’s game was the 10th time he’s appeared this season.

Pride is in his first season with the Cowboys. It was the first time he saw action for Dallas. Brooks has split time between the offense and special teams. He has 11 catches on 29 targets for 165 yards and a touchdown this season.

The Eagles finished off their NFC East rival minutes later. Kenny Pickett was 10-of-15 with 143 passing yards and a touchdown pass, but he left the game with a rib injury. Tanner McKee came into the game and threw two touchdown passes.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley eclipsed 2,000 rushing yards in a single season with his 167-yard game on 31 carries.

The Eagles moved to 13-3 on the season and the Cowboys fell to 7-9.

Eagles' Tanner McKee throws 1st career TD pass, teammate AJ Brown launches ball into stands

29 December 2024 at 16:23

The Philadelphia Eagles needed Tanner McKee to step into Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys as Kenny Pickett left with a rib injury.

The Eagles selected McKee in the sixth round of the 2023 draft out of Stanford. But he had never seen any action in a regular-season game. With Jalen Hurts already out and Pickett in the locker room, McKee took the reins and the team didn’t really miss a beat.

McKee found star wide receiver A.J. Brown with 2:44 left in the third quarter for a 20-yard touchdown pass. It was the first touchdown pass of his career. But Brown made a major faux pas by throwing the football into the stands at Lincoln Financial Field. He didn’t realize it was McKee’s first touchdown pass until he got back to the sideline.

Luckily, Eagles fans support their own and the team got the ball back.

McKee then hit DeVonta Smith for a 25-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. The team went up 41-7 at the point. They won the game by the same score and clinched the NFC East title.

If Pickett is hurt next week, McKee may be in line to start in the season finale against the New York Giants. Philadelphia will likely sit its key players until the wild-card round of the playoffs begins.

NFL fans mock Eagles' Kenny Pickett over bizarre play that led to fumble

29 December 2024 at 13:53

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kenny Pickett gave NFL fans a good laugh during the team’s game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

With the game tied at 7 apiece and about 12 minutes left in the first half, Pickett dropped back to throw the ball but didn’t release it. He stepped forward as if he was going to throw, but he held onto the football. He followed through as if he were passing, but the ball never left his hand.

Pickett fell to the ground without being touched, and the ball came out of his hand. Luckily, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was there to recover the ball.

NFL fans immediately called it the worst play they have ever seen.

NFL INSIDER FLOATS AARON RODGERS, KIRK COUSINS AS POTENTIAL COMPETITORS FOR BROWNS' QB JOB IN 2025

Pickett got the last laugh at the end of the first half. He threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith with 6:38 left in the half and then ran the ball into the end zone from the goal line as time expired in the half.

The backup had 133 passing yards in the first half. The Eagles led the Cowboys 24-7 at halftime.

Pickett was thrust into the starting role just before the Eagles’ penultimate game of the 2024 season against the Cowboys. Jalen Hurts suffered a concussion in the first quarter of last week’s loss to the Washington Commanders and wasn’t fully healthy in time.

Philadelphia hopes to wrap up the NFC East with a win over the Cowboys. The Washington Commanders are right on their tail at 10-5.

The Eagles are 12-3 this season.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy shares jubilant embrace with owner Jerry Jones amid contract drama

23 December 2024 at 07:03

When you’re winning, everything feels great as you head back to the locker room after the game.

But, for Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, every win to finish off the regular season could mean a contract extension. And a warm embrace with owner Jerry Jones has football fans wondering if that’s on the horizon.

McCarthy and Jones were spotted giving each other a big hug after the Cowboys beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 26-24, on "Sunday Night Football."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

There were big smiles as they embraced, but Jones also seemed to get serious when talking with McCarthy, though the microphones couldn’t pick up what he was saying. From the looks of things, it was one of those good, serious conversations as the Cowboys moved to 7-8 on the year.

Now, the reality of this season is the Cowboys are eliminated from playoff contention, which isn’t something Jones or anyone in the organization expected to see by the end of Week 17.

However, McCarthy has rejuvenated what was once a team deflated at 3-7 after losing to the Houston Texans on Nov. 18.

COWBOYS MAKE CLUTCH DEFENSIVE PLAYS TO STYMIE BUCS, PULL OFF WIN

Dallas has won four of its last five games, doing so without franchise quarterback Dak Prescott, whose hamstring injury against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 3 required surgery to repair, ending his 2024 campaign prematurely.

Jones has loved what he’s seen from his owner’s box in recent weeks.

"Those guys came out and played as though they were fighting in the championship game to go to the Super Bowl," Jones said after the win, per Yahoo Sports. "I can’t tell you how proud I am of them and the coaching staff. It really shows me something."

During his media availability, McCarthy spoke about that locker room he was just in, and how he feels his group is still playing like it’s the last play of the season, even if playoffs are not in the picture.

"I just think that shows you who they are," McCarthy explained. "I think everybody says the coach is always talking highly of the locker room – well, this is what I’m talking about. When I talk about, ‘It’s a great locker room,’ this is the definition of it. This is what a great locker room looks like."

Quite the turnaround for McCarthy, who appeared to be all but out the door as the Cowboys kept moving closer to a top draft pick rather than a playoff spot. But despite the tribulations of 2024, McCarthy has gotten the stamp of approval from Prescott and others regarding a contract extension.

Jones himself even commented on McCarthy’s contract status recently, saying near Thanksgiving that he didn’t feel extending him would be "crazy at all." After all, McCarthy has gone 12-5 in each of the last three seasons before this one, which could still be a year above .500.

Two more weeks remain on McCarthy’s current deal, and if Dallas finishes strong against the NFC East’s two likely playoff teams – the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders – perhaps he will continue to lead "America’s Team" into the future.

As the saying goes, end the year on a high note. McCarthy has his 'Boys playing accordingly.
