Chiefs player speaks out after Patrick Mahomes skipped him while greeting teammates during Super Bowl loss

11 February 2025 at 13:58

Toward the end of the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl loss Sunday, Patrick Mahomes greeted some of his fellow offensive players, giving high-fives and sharing hugs.

But one player — running back Samaje Perine — was noticeably left out despite standing up as Mahomes approached him.

Mahomes greeted JuJu Smith-Schuster and Hollywood Brown before embracing Isiah Pacheco. Next on the bench was Perine, who stood up, but Mahomes instead approached Travis Kelce, and the two shared a long embrace.

People noticed the apparent snub, and in an Instagram post highlighting video of what happened, many called out Mahomes for a lack of leadership.

However, according to the New York Post, Perine commented on the post and said people were making something out of nothing.

"Lol I actually stood up to untie my pants string, no one blamed anybody," Perine commented. "It’s not that deep."

Perine, third on the running back depth chart behind Kareem Hunt and Pacheco, caught a pass from Mahomes in the AFC championship against the Buffalo Bills, which sealed their victory and sent them to their third straight Super Bowl.

PATRICK MAHOMES TAKES BLAME FOR SUPER BOWL LIX ROUT, PROMISES CHIEFS 'WILL BE BACK'

He was used mainly in the pass game out of the backfield, catching 28 passes for 322 yards and one touchdown for the Chiefs during the regular season. He also had 92 rushing yards on 20 carries with a score.

In the 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Perine had just one carry for eight yards.

The loss halted the Chiefs' quest for a three-peat, which would have been the first in Super Bowl history.

It's the Eagles' second Lombardi Trophy after winning the 2018 Super Bowl.

Sunday's game was a rematch of the Super Bowl two years ago, which the Chiefs won, 38-35.

Super Bowl LIX shatters viewership records as millions watched Eagles win

11 February 2025 at 06:12

Super Bowl LIX shattered records as NFL fans tuned in or streamed the Philadelphia Eagles’ blowout win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, 40-22, in New Orleans.

FOX Sports announced on Monday that a projected average of 126 million watched the game across FOX, FOX Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo and NFL Digital properties. The game was broadcast on FOX and streamed live for free on Tubi for the first time ever.

About 135.7 million viewers tuned in at the peak, which FOX Sports said was between 8 and 8:15 p.m. ET in the second quarter of the game. By that time, the Eagles were already well on their way to a big victory.

Additionally, FOX Sports said 14.5 million streamed the game on Tubi and NFL Digital properties. Tubi received 13.6 million viewers alone.

EAGLES' JALEN HURTS CELEBRATES SUPER BOWL LIX VICTORY, MVP AT DISNEY'S MAGIC KINGDOM

The Eagles won the game behind outstanding performances from quarterback Jalen Hurts and the defense, which was able to torment Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and shut down the offense almost completely.

Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP.

"This is the ultimate team game. You can’t be great without the greatness of others. Great performance by everybody — offense, defense, special teams," head coach Nick Sirianni said. "We didn’t really ever care what anyone thought about how we won, or their opinions. All we want to do is win."

The game also featured the Chiefs’ shot at three consecutive Super Bowl titles, Kendrick Lamar's halftime performance, a Taylor Swift appearance and an historic visit from President Donald Trump, who became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl.

Eagles' CJ Gardner-Johnson trolls Travis Kelce after Super Bowl LIX win

11 February 2025 at 05:52

Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson trolled Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in a post on social media following the team’s Super Bowl LIX victory on Sunday.

Gardner-Johnson, who had an interception return for a touchdown nullified late in the game, posted a message seemingly directed toward the star tight end and his romantic life.

"Should’ve stayed w that thick s***" he wrote as the caption.

Gardner-Johnson seemed to reference Kelce’s ex Kayla Nicole and made a comparison towards the tight end’s current flame, pop star Taylor Swift. Both women were on hand to watch the Eagles rout the Chiefs, 40-22.

Nicole was on the field blowing the green and white confetti around while celebrating the Eagles’ win. Kelce was seen after the game going up to Swift’s suite to meet with her before he left with the team. Kelce appeared downcast as he walked off the field following the loss.

CHIEFS' PATRICK MAHOMES LEAVES OUT TEAMMATE WHILE SHAKING HANDS DURING SUPER BOWL LIX LOSS

The question will be whether Kelce returns to the Chiefs for the 2025 season or whether he walks into the sunset and retires.

For Gardner-Johnson, he will be with the team on Friday when they celebrate their title win in Philadelphia. He had three tackles in the Super Bowl.

Gardner-Johnson played in 16 games for the Eagles in 2024. He tied his career high with six interceptions. He returned one during the regular season for a touchdown.

Eagles' Nick Sirianni has message for Kellen Moore as coach is rumored to take the Saints' job

10 February 2025 at 06:46

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni expressed his desire for Kellen Moore to stay on his coaching staff amid rumors he was going to take the New Orleans Saints job.

All signs have indicated Moore will become the next Saints’ head coach as he was linked to the job in the days ahead of the Eagles’ 40-22 Super Bowl LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

As the Eagles celebrated their second Super Bowl title, Sirianni had a message for Moore.

"Let’s run this s--- back," Sirianni said as he talked to FOX’s Tom Rinaldi.

Moore had been a highly coveted coach a few coaching cycles ago but never landed a head-coaching job. He had been an offensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys for four years before he coached the Los Angeles Chargers last season.

As Jim Harbaugh took over head-coaching duties, Moore was out. He then joined Sirianni’s staff. The team was seventh in points scored and eighth in yards gained during the season.

TOM BRADY DISAGREES WITH REFEREES ON CONTROVERSIAL PASS INTERFERENCE CALL AGAINST EAGLES IN SUPER BOWL LIX

Philadelphia rode the team’s offensive abilities throughout the season. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley brought the offensive explosion, with the running back nearly breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season record.

In the playoffs, the offense played at a high level as well on route to a Super Bowl win.

Moore is rumored to take the Saints job and will have a quarterback in Derek Carr to work with.

New Orleans went 5-12 in 2024.

Philly mayor warns Eagles fans over post-Super Bowl LIX antics: 'Do not climb light poles or anything else'

9 February 2025 at 09:45

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker warned Eagles fans about their post-Super Bowl LIX celebrations after their last one left at least one person dead and several injured in separate incidents.

The Eagles are set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII. Philadelphia officials have made clear they were ready for revelers to take to the streets after the game. Parker warned fans not to climb on the city’s light poles.

"Don't climb light poles or anything else," she said Friday, via FOX 29 Philadelphia. "Please, Philadelphia, I implore you as your mayor, do not climb light poles or anything else."

She added the climbing on any type of structure or fixture could "lead to tragedy."

Tyler Sabapathy, an 18-year-old Temple University student-athlete, died after falling from the pole and landing on his head while celebrating the Eagles’ NFC Championship win, Philadelphia police told FOX 29 Philadelphia. The teen was taken to the hospital and was in very critical condition before he eventually died.

NFL great Lawrence Taylor recalls stern warning he gave Joe Montana during testy confrontation

8 February 2025 at 13:00

NFL legend Lawrence Taylor was among the hardest hitters to ever to play the sport.

Taylor, 66, recalled a moment from his playing career against Joe Montana, where, after getting duped by the legendary quarterback, he issued the four-time Super Bowl champion a stern warning.

"I remember playing Joe Montana, and I was chasing him down, he came out, he chased out, he’s running to the out of bounds. And just before he stepped out of bounds, I just let up, you know. That son of a – he took that ball and ran down another 15 yards, right?" Taylor said during an appearance on OutKick’s "The Ricky Cobb Show."

SIGN UP FOR TUBI AND STREAM SUPER BOWL LIX FOR FREE

"And I went over to him, and I said, ‘Listen, hey, let me tell you something. If you ever do that again, I will light you up.’ And he apologized, and he said, ‘Man, I understand.’"

Montana would've been smart to listen to Taylor's warning, whom some consider to be the greatest defensive player of all time.

Taylor then brought up Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes and sympathized with defenders for having to adhere to the rules while trying to slow down running quarterbacks in today's NFL.

"Nowadays, you can’t even touch them when they hit the ground. But then what happens when you're playing a guy like Mahomes, who does his fake going to go down, and then he takes and runs off. I mean, what happens? Let’s get some fairness in this," Taylor said.

If Taylor were still playing, he would be certain to issue Mahomes a similar warning he did to Montana.

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

Taylor is not the only prominent football figure to question the rules surrounding quarterbacks who scramble. Tom Brady shared a similar sentiment to Taylor during an appearance on FOX Sports’ "The Herd" in January.

"When quarterbacks become running backs, and they're out of the pocket, they should lose their protection," Brady said

"We're trying to protect the quarterbacks, but coaches are calling more quarterback runs than ever in the history of the game. So, who is protecting the quarterback? We're trying to say the referees should do it?"

There were two calls that Mahomes was the beneficiary of in the Chiefs win over the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional round that sparked debate.

Texans’ star defensive end Will Anderson Jr. was flagged for a roughing-the-passer penalty for hitting Mahomes up toward the head area while throwing a pass, but what Brady seems to be alluding to is the penalty Mahomes received in the third quarter.

Mahomes was scrambling in the third quarter, and as he slid, he was hit by two Texans defenders near the head area as he was going down.

Texans linebacker Henry To’oTo’o was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play.

The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX, where the officiating will be closely monitored, especially on plays involving Mahomes.

FOX’s Super Bowl coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET Sunday. Coverage can be streamed live on Tubi for the first time.

Saints legend Mark Ingram preaches responsible gambling, respect for players ahead of Super Bowl LIX

8 February 2025 at 11:57

The "Big Game" is only a day away, and while there will only be one winner between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, many others across the country are hoping they win something, too: their sports bets.

The American Gaming Association (AGA) is estimating that Americans will bet $1.39 billion legally on Super Bowl LIX across those states that provide operating sportsbooks, which is a record.

SIGN UP FOR TUBI AND STREAM SUPER BOWL LIX FOR FREE

The continued expansion of legal sports betting markets – North Carolina and Vermont were added among legalized states, and Missouri just voted to approve it to bring the count to 40 states, as well as the District of Columbia – will be highlighted in Super Bowl LIX.

The increased enthusiasm is why former NFL running back Mark Ingram, who was back in New Orleans, the place he called home with the Saints for 10 seasons, teamed up with the AGA to implore sports bettors to game responsibly this Super Bowl.

"You gotta have a gameplan," he told Fox News Digital on Radio Row in New Orleans. "First and foremost, have a budget, and stick to it. Be responsible, bet legally and don’t be harassing players – sending Venmos, sending CashApps when they don’t hit your prop bets. Enjoy it, respect it. It’s supposed to be entertainment."

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

Athletes from all sports have talked about sports bettors sending them messages, containing vulgar verbiage and threats to pay them after their performances didn't work out in favor of their bet slip.

But Ingram is sick of seeing it.

"It’s crazy, man," he said. "The players didn’t set the over/under for themselves, Vegas did. So, be mad at Vegas. The players are out there trying to do everything they can to help their team win a game."

Joe Maloney, Senior Vice President, Strategic Communications at the AGA, discussed the five pillars that all sports bettors, experienced or not, should follow heading into the Super Bowl and beyond.

"First, bet legally," Maloney began. "It’s important that you’re doing it in a legal operator with a legal sportsbook. Two, keep it fun. This is a social activity, do it with others. Just keep it fun. Three, stick to a budget. Understand what amount you want to spend on this type of activity. It’s no different than any other type of entertainment activity. Have a budget for it and stick to it.

"The other piece, which is also very important: Know the odds. Understand the terminology, and understand the difference between a sure bet and a longshot bet. A longshot bet, if you hit it, you’ll make more money. A sure bet, like Jalen Hurts scoring a touchdown in the game on Sunday, that’s probably more of a sure bet.

"Finally, keep your cool. Losing your bet is not an invitation to harass an athlete, harass an official, harass a coach. Just keep it to yourself if you win or lose."

For moneyline bets, or simply choosing who will win the game, the Chiefs are slight favorites to beat the Eagles, but that could always move, depending on how much money comes in ahead of kickoff at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday night.

Bill Maher hails NFL ditching 'end racism' from Super Bowl LIX end zones, says it was 'stupid to begin with'

8 February 2025 at 09:59

"Real Time" host Bill Maher welcomed the NFL's decision to pull its "end racism" message from the end zones ahead of Super Bowl LIX, insisting it was "stupid to begin with."

The words "End Racism," which were previously featured in the 2021 Super Bowl and this year's NFC Championship Game, will not be featured Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles, the NFL announced this week.

During a panel discussion Friday night, Maher suggested President Trump, who is expected to attend Super Bowl LIX, was "making" the NFL remove the slogan from the field.

BILL MAHER LAMENTS THAT EVERYTHING IN GOVERMENT IS ‘BROKEN,' BUT IS CONVINCED TRUMP ISN'T THE ANSWER

"But why?" Puck News' Tara Palmeri reacted. "It just seems silly."

"To do it or not to do it?" Maher asked.

"Why get rid of it?" Palmeri pressed.

"Oh, I could tell you why," Maher shot back, sparking laughs from the audience. "Because it was stupid to begin with."

"Let me ask you who is it for?" he continued. "If you're a racist and you see ‘end racism’ in the end zone, you're gonna stop being a racist?"

BILL MAHER DECLARES CHINA ‘THE NEW ISLAM,’ SAYS LEFT CAN'T BE HONEST ABOUT THE COUNTRY'S THREAT

"But the sentiment is basically ‘don’t be an a--h---," Palmeri responded.

"But I think it's an a--h--- to nag us during the football game about something that doesn't change anything or any- if I'm not a racist and I see it, it doesn't matter. And if I am a racist, it's just gonna make me more of a racist."

"I think if you write, 'Don't be an a--h---' in the end zone, everybody will agree with that," Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., chimed in.

"The problem is we all think the other guy is an a--h---!" Maher chuckled.

Instead of "end racism," the phrases "Choose Love" and "It Takes All of Us" will be emblazoned in the end zones at the Caesars Superdome. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told The Athletic on Tuesday the decision came amid the recent tragedies that have occurred in the U.S. since the start of 2025, including the terror attack in New Orleans, wildfires in the Los Angeles area and the deadly plane crash near a Washington, D.C., airport.

"We felt it was an appropriate statement for what the country has collectively endured, given recent tragedies, and can serve as an inspiration," he told the outlet.

The Super Bowl team Trump may not be rooting for on Sunday

8 February 2025 at 09:02

President Donald Trump, taking to social media ahead of the Super Bowl, praised both teams facing off in professional football's biggest game.

"Two great Quarterbacks in this game. Also, an unbelievable running back, and the absolute best tight end in football (Ever!). Incredible coaching!" the president wrote Friday in a post on his Truth Social platform. "IT WILL BE A GREAT GAME!!!"

Trump is expected to make history this weekend as the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl in person, when the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans, Louisiana.

FIRST FAN: TRUMP TAKES AIM AT THIS NEW NFL RULE

The Chiefs are aiming to make history as the first National Football League team to win three straight Lombardi trophies as Super Bowl champions.

The Eagles, playing in their third Super Bowl in seven seasons, seek to avenge their 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in the championship game two years ago.

Trump earlier this week appeared to indicate which team he may be rooting for in the big game.

When asked by reporters in the Oval Office which team he wanted to win the Super Bowl, the president responded, "I don't wanna say."

"But there’s a certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner," he added as he apparently pointed towards Chiefs' star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The president the next day gave a shoutout to Mahomes and his wife Brittany, who hinted at support for Trump in last year's presidential election.

"Congratulations to the Chiefs GREAT Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, and his very beautiful and BRILLIANT wife, Brittany, on the birth of their new baby daughter, Golden Raye. This is what I call a baby with great genes, both mother and father. It’s happy times in the wonderful Mahomes family. See you all on Sunday!" he wrote.

While Trump theoretically is staying neutral in Sunday's game, he does appear to have an acrimonious history with the Eagles which dates back to his first White House administration.

During his first year in office, Trump repeatedly criticized NFL players who refused to stand for the national anthem as they symbolically protested racism. After the Eagles won the Super Bowl that season, most of the players on the team said they would boycott the traditional White House appearance by the championship team.

FOX NEWS' BRET BAIER TO INTERVIEW TRUMP AT SUPER BOWL

Trump, responding, disinvited the team.

"The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow," Trump said at the time. "They disagree with their president because he insists that they proudly stand for the national anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country."

The Eagles are also the team long cheered on by former President Joe Biden, a Pennsylvania native who for nearly his entire life has called neighboring Delaware home.

As he addressed the Democratic National Committee, which met in Philadelphia amid a blistering cold weekend in early 2023 for their annual winter meeting, the then-president said "Fly, Eagles, fly!"

And former First Lady Jill Biden, a devout Eagles fan who often wears the team's garb, will be attending Sunday's Super Bowl.

Trump says NFL's new kickoff rule 'actually makes football more dangerous'

7 February 2025 at 17:59

President Donald Trump is expected to be at Super Bowl LIX Sunday, and it appears he's looking forward to it.

If he does attend, Trump will watch the Kansas City Chiefs try to become the first team to win three consecutive Lombardi Trophies.

On the other sideline will be the Philadelphia Eagles, who will be playing in their third Super Bowl in seven seasons. It's a rematch of the Super Bowl two years ago, which Kansas City won 38-35.

Trump gave a quick preview of the game on Truth Social, praising the "two great quarterbacks," Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts; "an unbelievable running back," seemingly Saquon Barkley; and "incredible coaching" from Andy Reid and Nick Sirianni.

In the post, Trump also appeared to declare Travis Kelce the "best tight end … ever."

But he does want the NFL to go back to its old kickoff rules.

"If they would only get rid of that really weird looking new Kickoff 'deal,' which actually makes football more dangerous, they would be doing everybody, especially the fans, a big favor," Trump wrote.

It was not the first time Trump has been critical of the rule. He wrote that the league should ditch the "ridiculous" rule shortly after winning the election.

HOW TO WATCH SUPER BOWL LIX BETWEEN CHIEFS, EAGLES STREAMED ON TUBI

He also mentioned it as a point of contention when he appeared on the "Let’s Go!" podcast with sportscaster Jim Gray and former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

He wrote about it on Truth Social in early September as well.

"I can’t believe the NFL is effectively getting rid of the always exciting Kick Off Return. Such an exciting part of football. What are they doing? BEGINNING OF THE END!" he wrote.

The NFL is in its first season with its dynamic kickoff rule, which was essentially taken from the XFL. Players are unable to move until after the ball is touched or hits the ground.

All kicking team players are lined up with one foot on the receiving team’s 40-yard line, while the players on the receiving team can set up between their own 30 and 35, where at least nine players must line up facing the kicking team.

The new rules have ended surprise onside kicks.

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes admits Super Bowl loss to Tom Brady, Buccaneers still stings

5 February 2025 at 18:10

Patrick Mahomes is a big reason the Kansas City Chiefs have hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy in back-to-back seasons. He was named the Super Bowl MVP after winning each of those championships.

Mahomes earned Super Bowl MVP honors for the first time in the Chiefs' win over the San Francisco 49ers in the 2020 game.

While Mahomes enters Sunday's big game in pursuit of an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title, he admitted his second time playing the NFL's title game still sticks with him.

In his first season with the Buccaneers, Tom Brady led Tampa Bay to the 2021 Super Bowl. On Wednesday in New Orleans, the site of this year's Super Bowl, Mahomes was asked if there was a particular game that still keeps him restless.

Mahomes mentioned the 31-9 loss to Brady and the Bucs in the Super Bowl.

"The Super Bowl versus Tampa," he responded. "That’s pretty easy."

Mahomes finished that game with 270 passing yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. While Brady threw for fewer yards — 201 — he was credited with three touchdowns through the air and did not commit a turnover.

Brady will be in the FOX broadcast booth when this Sunday's Super Bowl kicks off. Instead of preparing for a matchup with the seven-time Super Bowl champion, Mahomes and the Chiefs will focus on trying to counter Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Hurts is making his second career appearance in the league's championship game. The Eagles selected Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He helped Philadelphia advance to the 2023 Super Bowl, but the Eagles lost 38-35 to the Chiefs. This year's game in New Orleans will be a rematch of that Super Bowl from two years ago.

Eagles fan Jill Biden to attend Super Bowl LIX: report

5 February 2025 at 17:47

Jill Biden, the former first lady and a Philadelphia Eagles fan, will reportedly head to New Orleans for the Super Bowl Sunday with her grandson.

Former President Joe Biden will not be in attendance at the game, USA Today reported Wednesday. The Bidens' grandson, Hunter, is the son of their late son Beau.

Jill and her grandson were in attendance for the 2023 Super Bowl when the Eagles played the Kansas City Chiefs.

It will be a rematch of that game this weekend.

Philadelphia nearly knocked Kansas City off the first time the two teams met in the Super Bowl. But the Chiefs got the upper hand. The win kickstarted Kansas City's run at a dynasty. The Chiefs have won three of the last four Super Bowls and have a shot at three straight, a feat no NFL team has accomplished.

Jill Biden reacted to the Eagles’ NFC championship win nearly two weeks ago.

"Proud Philly girl!" she wrote in a post on X.

President Donald Trump is also expected to attend the game. He would become the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl.

"I don’t want to say, but there’s a certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner," he said, appearing to reference Patrick Mahomes.

Eagles star Saquon Barkley proposes to longtime girlfriend days before Super Bowl LIX: report

3 February 2025 at 06:50

Before he chases his first Super Bowl ring, Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley was reportedly down on one knee giving a ring to his longtime girlfriend, Anna Congdon.

Barkley is now engaged to Congdon, according to People, as he checks off a major life moment ahead of his biggest career game to date as he and the Eagles head to New Orleans to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX this upcoming Sunday.

"I can’t be the athlete I am and have the success I have so in my career without the help of her," Barkley told the outlet of Congdon.

SIGN UP FOR TUBI AND STREAM SUPER BOWL LIX FOR FREE

The two share two children together, daughter Jada, 6, and son Saquon Jr., 2, and their pre-game ritual of special handshakes and kisses has gone viral in Barkley’s first season with the Eagles.

Barkley and Congdon met at Penn State and have been going strong since 2017. Barkley told People that they will "just sit back and laugh sometimes when [their kids are] over there playing and just smile and think about where everything started."

It started with the New York Giants, who took Barkley second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft after a stellar Nittany Lions career. However, after a rollercoaster six seasons in New York, which ended badly after not getting what he wanted contract-wise, Barkley signed with the Eagles in free agency this past offseason.

Clearly, it was the right move for the running back, as he could have the best running back season of all-time statistically depending on his performance against the Chiefs.

Personally, the move has been something Barkley says his family has loved, with the city of Philadelphia embracing him right away despite being their rival for years.

Barkley and his family were at Lincoln Financial Field sharing quite the moment when green and white confetti rained down on the Eagles after dominating the Washington Commanders, 55-23, in the NFC Championship.

"If I could wrap my arms around this memory, I would…" Congdon captioned an Instagram post of her family celebrating the victory that put them in Super Bowl LIX. Barkley commented, "Love you," with a heart emoji.

It has been quite a celebratory year for Barkley, who led the NFL in rushing yards with over 2,000, and it could continue on his 28th birthday, which just so happens to fall on Super Bowl LIX.

"The best birthday gift you can have is playing in the Super Bowl and the only thing better than that is winning the Super Bowl on your Birthday," he said to People.

Barkley added that he is not focused on his birthday plans at all, hoping to "continue to play at a high level" to help his team beat the Chiefs, a team chasing NFL history as the only squad to win three straight Lombardi Trophies.

Barkley scored three touchdowns for the Eagles in the NFC Championship victory over the Commanders, and he certainly will try to do so again in New Orleans, where his now-fiancee and family will be cheering him on.

Jake Paul offers Saquon Barkley one of his Ferraris if he wins Super Bowl MVP

3 February 2025 at 04:15

Super Bowl Sunday has the potential to be extra special for Saquon Barkley.

For one, he'll be playing for the Lombardi Trophy for the first time. It will also be his 28th birthday.

However, aside from the coveted trophy, he has a chance to win another grand prize next week: one of Jake Paul's Ferraris.

Paul gave his word in a social media post last week.

"This is a message for Saquon Barkley and Saquon Barkley only. If you win the Super Bowl MVP, I think you can do it brother … I will give you one of my Ferraris," Paul said in the video.

In a video where Oz The Mentalist visited the Philadelphia Eagles, Barkley was spotted wearing a shirt from Paul's men's personal care brand, W.

Barkley has dominated all season, much to New York Giants fans' chagrin. After the team opted to move off him, he became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. Had he not rested in Week 18, he very well could have broken Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record.

In 19 games played this season, including the postseason, Barkley has rushed for 2,447 yards and 18 touchdowns, five of which have come in his last two games.

Seven running backs have won the Super Bowl MVP, but it's been almost 30 years since the last one: Terrell Davis in 1997.

Barkley is 30 yards away breaking Davis' record for the most rushing yards in a season including playoff games.

NFL SET TO PLAY IN AUSTRALIA IN 2026 WITH MARQUEE TEAMS: REPORT

The superstar running back joined the Eagles on a three-year deal this past offseason, and it's proving to be perhaps their best move in recent memory. Out of his 19 games played, he's rushed for 100-plus 12 times and has eclipsed the 200-yard mark twice.

Including the playoffs, Barkley is averaging 128.8 rushing yards per game. So, it's certainly not out of the question that he could break the running back drought.

He'll just have to do it against the back-to-back reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The National Football League appears to be headed to its fourth continent.

According to a report by the Herald Sun in Australia, the league will play games in Melbourne beginning in 2026.

The Australian outlet reported that up to three games would be played, with the first at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which will feature two teams with recent success.

One of the games will feature the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams, the Herald Sun says.

The Birds are back in the Super Bowl for the second time in three years after having won it in 2018, while the Rams took home the title three years ago.

The Eagles and Rams are the only two teams that are a part of the NFL's Global Markets Program in Australia, which was made to build fandom and support outside the United States.

The MCG holds roughly 100,000 people.

It wouldn't be the first time the NFL toyed with Australia, as the Denver Broncos and then-San Diego Chargers played a preseason game there in 1999.

The Eagles were featured in the NFL's first game in South America at the beginning of the season, with their Week 1 matchup against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil.

The outlet said the Victorian government and the NFL "have been in secret talks for months."

Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata was born in Australia. He was a star rugby player who never played football in high school or college.

The league will play in Spain for the first time later this year, with the Miami Dolphins' opponent to be determined. Games have been played in London, Mexico and Germany. The first official overseas game in 2007 featured the Dolphins and New York Giants.

Eagles' A.J. Brown recalls feeling like a 'paid actor' at previous Super Bowl, a loss to the Chiefs

1 February 2025 at 20:46

NFL star A.J. Brown made headlines when cameras recently captured him passing time during a Philadelphia Eagles game reading a book, "Inner Excellence," by self-help author Jim Murphy.

Brown's sideline routine contributed to a spike in book sales, with "Inner Excellence" quickly jumping into the top spot on Amazon's trending list the day after the Eagles' wild-card win over the Green Bay Packers.

The book ranked 523,497 prior to the sudden increase in attention brought on by Brown.

Brown and the Eagles will now turn the page and focus on preventing a Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl three-peat. The Eagles are hoping to avoid a repeat of the 2023 Super Bowl.

Brown caught six passes for 96 yards and scored a touchdown in the 2023 Super Bowl in Arizona. But Kansas City took the lead in the fourth quarter and celebrated a 38-35 victory.

Two full NFL seasons have passed since the loss, and the Eagles could still be haunted by the memory of how they let a chance at winning the franchise's second Super Bowl championship slip away.

A play here, a play there, and the Eagles could have been Super Bowl champions.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts replied "next question" when asked his most vivid memory from the 2023 Super Bowl, and Brown recounted a missed opportunity for him to score a touchdown that could have changed the outcome.

"The play really kept me up thinking about, ‘How did I miss that?’ and what I got confused on," Brown said.

The play?

"I don’t want to get into it because we may run it back," he said.

HISTORY OF THE SUPER BOWL: PAST WINNERS, RESULTS, MVPS AND LOCATIONS OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Brown finished the 2024 season with 67 catches and a team-high 1,079 yards despite missing four games. It was the third consecutive year Brown surpassed 1,000 receiving yards.

"A.J. is the best receiver that this city has ever seen," Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said.

Brown was rewarded in April with a three-year contract extension that included $84 million in guaranteed money. He was about to become the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL at $32 million a year until Minnesota Vikings wideout Justin Jefferson's deal topped his later that summer.

While Brown is paid like an elite receiver, he said he felt like nothing but a "paid actor" at the 2023 Super Bowl.

Brown said if he had his way, the Eagles would arrive in New Orleans on Friday, hold a walk-through Saturday and play the game Sunday. His Super Bowl experience was like something out of a movie in which he played the role of a football player. He has tried to steel his emotions amid this year's Super Bowl hype.

"It’s about us, but it’s not about us," he said. "We have so much we have to do for everyone else. The media, the fans. There’s only so little time that we get to focus on what’s important, and that’s the game."

Brown said he’s been turning down media requests "left and right" because, when it comes to Super Bowl hype, "none of this stuff matters."

The Super Bowl kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET Feb. 9 from the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Chiefs' Travis Kelce sends three-word message of support to Eagles fans as Super Bowl matchup looms

1 February 2025 at 14:30

Jason Kelce stepped away from football after the 2023 season. The former offensive lineman spent his entire standout career with the Philadelphia Eagles — the reigning NFC champions.

The Eagles will soon travel to New Orleans to continue preparations for Super Bowl LIX. The Kansas City Chiefs will meet the Eagles at the Caesars Superdome for the big game, creating a rematch of Super Bowl LVII. Jason and his younger brother Travis Kelce competed against each other in that game, with the Chiefs ultimately defeating the Eagles.

Travis was recently named to his tenth consecutive Pro Bowl, while Jason has settled into broadcasting during his first year of NFL retirement. The former Eagles center Kelce signed with ESPN last year and made routine appearances on "Monday Night Countdown" throughout the 2024 football season.

In November, Jason announced he would host "They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce" starting in early Jan. 2025 and continuing through the NFL postseason. Travis made an appearance on the latest edition of the show and was asked to share a message for Philadelphia fans.

The Chiefs tight end appeared to shrug his shoulders before responding with "Go Birds, baby!" as the live studio audience inside Philadelphia's concert hall Union Transfer applauded.

Jason quickly pointed to what he perceived as a disingenuous show of support from his brother. "You don't mean that," he said while laughing.

Travis then spoke about his appreciation for his brother before doubling down on his Eagles support.

"What do you mean? I’m a Jason Kelce fanatic, dude," Travis continued. "I love that guy. I still got all the gang green from you guys’ Super Bowl and your run in Philly. I still got some Philly pride man. I’m wishing the best for those guys, but, you know, uhhh, go birds."

"There’s absolutely no chance you mean that," Jason concluded.

After starting the 2023 campaign with a 10-1 record, the Eagles went on to win just one of their final six games. Philadelphia subsequently suffered a 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round.

Kelce announced his retirement shortly after the Eagles' playoff exit. He ended his career with seven Pro Bowls and six First-team All-Pro selections.

The end of the 2024 regular season and the ongoing postseason have been more enjoyable for Philly. The Eagles were presented with the George Halas Trophy last Sunday after the team won the conference title and clinched a spot in the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LIX kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 9 from the Caesars Superdome.

Eagles invite survivor of Bourbon Street attack back to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX: ‘Not letting evil win’

1 February 2025 at 11:20

Former Princeton football player Ryan Quigley was seriously injured and lost his best friend and fellow teammate, Tiger Bech, in the violent terrorist attack in New Orleans on January 1. But Quigley will have the opportunity to write that tragic story when he returns next weekend as an honorary guest of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles invited Quigley and Bech’s sister to attend their divisional round game against the Los Angeles Rams last month, but this week they invited him to their training facility with the intention of surprising him with Super Bowl LIX tickets.

"We want to tell you the real reason we brought you here," Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham said in a video shared by the team. "It’s okay if you’re not feeling it, but we would love to have you down for the Super Bowl."

This year’s Super Bowl will be hosted by the city of New Orleans. It will take place just a little over a month after the attack. Quigley will return to the city, something he vowed never to do again.

"New Year's Eve was my first time in New Orleans ever, it was my first night, and I told myself it was going to be the last," he told the team’s website. "But then I thought about it, because all year I've been telling Tiger if the Eagles make the Super Bowl this year, I promised him I was going to take him, and he's from Louisiana."

"I think, not letting evil win and evil will not prevail. I think we're going to go back to New Orleans and leave on a positive note from that city, given that Tiger's from there and that I promised him I was going bring him down to the Super Bowl. I'm looking forward to it for sure."

Quigley, 26, suffered broken bones in his leg, back and face and underwent surgery and several days in the hospital to recover from a horrific terror attack on Bourbon Street that killed 14 people and injured dozens more.

CHIEFS POTENTIAL SUPER BOWL CELEBRATIONS WILL NOT FEATURE PUBLIC RALLY FOLLOWING 2024 MASS SHOOTING: REPORT

He hopes that his presence will allow him to share Bech’s story, something he plans to continue doing no, matter where he goes.

"Everything that the Eagles have done from being around the facilities today and the Divisional Round, to helping us share his story, there's no words to describe it. We're forever grateful to have the opportunity to tell the rest of the world how special Tiger was."

"Everyone that I meet moving forward, I want to introduce Tiger as well, because of how special he was and how much character he had," he added.

"He had no problem going to like anywhere in the world and fitting into different cultures. And he was just a super well-rounded individual with a ton of qualities that I'm going to make sure people know about for the rest of my life."

The Eagles and Chiefs will meet in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Hot mic catches moment Commanders' Jayden Daniels was perplexed by odd referee announcement in NFC title game

30 January 2025 at 18:11

During the Philadelphia Eagles’ beatdown of the Washington Commanders in the NFC championship, there was an odd moment at the goal line in the second half when Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu tried to stop a "tush push" by jumping over the offensive line.

But he was called for encroachment … multiple times.

"Inside the NFL" caught the moment Luvu leaped over the Eagles’ offensive line without the ball being snapped. And, because he did it so many times, referees stepped in.

What was said, though, shocked many people, including Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels

"Encroachment, defense, No. 4," the referee said. "Washington has been advised that, at some point, the referee can award a score if this type of behavior happens again."

"Award a score? You can give them a touchdown?" Daniels responded on the sideline.

Although it worked out in their favor, the Eagles' defenders watching their offense about to punch in another score never heard of the rule either.

"Next time they do that, they award a score?" Darius Slay asked fellow defensive back Cooper DeJean.

"The refs can give us a touchdown I guess if they do it again or something," DeJean responded.

The obscure rule is found in the NFL Rulebook as Rule 12, Section 3, Article 4.

"PALPABLY UNFAIR ACT: A player or substitute shall not interfere with play by any act which is palpably unfair. 51 Rule 12 Penalty: For a palpably unfair act: Offender may be disqualified. The Referee, after consulting the officiating crew, enforces any such distance penalty as they consider equitable and irrespective of any other specified code penalty. The Referee may award a score."

The rule is for obvious unfair situations, and referees felt Luvu consistently jumping the gun on his leap to stop Jalen Hurts and the tush push was too much because the Eagles didn’t snap the ball.

Hurts eventually got into the end zone on a tush push for his third rushing touchdown against the Commanders in the 55-23 rout.

NFL star Xavier Worthy recalls meeting Taylor Swift after Chiefs' AFC title game win: 'She's taller than me'

30 January 2025 at 17:52

NFL rookie Xavier Worthy is sharing some details about meeting Taylor Swift.

The music star made her way to the field inside Arrowhead Stadium shortly after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC championship game

Cameras captured Worthy taking note of Swift's stature moments after he greeted the "Anti-Hero" singer.

"Oh s---," Worthy said as he smiled. "She's taller than me."

The Chiefs' roster lists Worthy at 5-foot-11. By most accounts, Swift stands around one inch shorter than the Chiefs wide receiver. While Swift and Worthy are similar heights when flat-footed, the heels Swift was wearing at the time of the exchange could have made her appear to be taller than Worthy.

Worthy later confirmed Sunday's game marked the first time he met Swift.

"I just met her." Worthy told ABC 30. "It's the video going viral right now. I was like, 'Damn, she's tall. She's taller than me.'"

Worthy added that Swift recognized him because Kansas City selected him in the first round of April's draft.

"We were on the field, and she walked right past me and said, ‘Oh you're the one who got drafted?" Worthy said. "So, we met like that. It was cool."

Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, recently said the pop star continues to support him.

"She's fully encouraging me to enjoy playing this game," Kelce said earlier this month.

Kelce, 35, is playing in his 12th season in the NFL. He appeared in 16 of 17 games and finished the year with 823 receiving yards.

The 2024 campaign marked the second consecutive year the star tight end did not reach the 1,000-yard receiving mark, which prompted some questions about whether he would step away once the postseason comes to an end.

"I got all the support in the world to keep chasing these dreams," Kelce added.

Kansas City has advanced to the last seven AFC title games. The Chiefs will take on the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl Feb. 9 in New Orleans. The Chiefs are vying for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl championship.
