Eagles star Saquon Barkley proposes to longtime girlfriend days before Super Bowl LIX: report

Before he chases his first Super Bowl ring, Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley was reportedly down on one knee giving a ring to his longtime girlfriend, Anna Congdon.

Barkley is now engaged to Congdon, according to People, as he checks off a major life moment ahead of his biggest career game to date as he and the Eagles head to New Orleans to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX this upcoming Sunday.

"I can’t be the athlete I am and have the success I have so in my career without the help of her," Barkley told the outlet of Congdon.

The two share two children together, daughter Jada, 6, and son Saquon Jr., 2, and their pre-game ritual of special handshakes and kisses has gone viral in Barkley’s first season with the Eagles.

Barkley and Congdon met at Penn State and have been going strong since 2017. Barkley told People that they will "just sit back and laugh sometimes when [their kids are] over there playing and just smile and think about where everything started."

It started with the New York Giants, who took Barkley second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft after a stellar Nittany Lions career. However, after a rollercoaster six seasons in New York, which ended badly after not getting what he wanted contract-wise, Barkley signed with the Eagles in free agency this past offseason.

Clearly, it was the right move for the running back, as he could have the best running back season of all-time statistically depending on his performance against the Chiefs.

Personally, the move has been something Barkley says his family has loved, with the city of Philadelphia embracing him right away despite being their rival for years.

Barkley and his family were at Lincoln Financial Field sharing quite the moment when green and white confetti rained down on the Eagles after dominating the Washington Commanders, 55-23, in the NFC Championship.

"If I could wrap my arms around this memory, I would…" Congdon captioned an Instagram post of her family celebrating the victory that put them in Super Bowl LIX. Barkley commented, "Love you," with a heart emoji.

It has been quite a celebratory year for Barkley, who led the NFL in rushing yards with over 2,000, and it could continue on his 28th birthday, which just so happens to fall on Super Bowl LIX.

"The best birthday gift you can have is playing in the Super Bowl and the only thing better than that is winning the Super Bowl on your Birthday," he said to People.

Barkley added that he is not focused on his birthday plans at all, hoping to "continue to play at a high level" to help his team beat the Chiefs, a team chasing NFL history as the only squad to win three straight Lombardi Trophies.

Barkley scored three touchdowns for the Eagles in the NFC Championship victory over the Commanders, and he certainly will try to do so again in New Orleans, where his now-fiancee and family will be cheering him on.

Jake Paul offers Saquon Barkley one of his Ferraris if he wins Super Bowl MVP

Super Bowl Sunday has the potential to be extra special for Saquon Barkley.

For one, he'll be playing for the Lombardi Trophy for the first time. It will also be his 28th birthday.

However, aside from the coveted trophy, he has a chance to win another grand prize next week: one of Jake Paul's Ferraris.

Paul gave his word in a social media post last week.

"This is a message for Saquon Barkley and Saquon Barkley only. If you win the Super Bowl MVP, I think you can do it brother … I will give you one of my Ferraris," Paul said in the video.

In a video where Oz The Mentalist visited the Philadelphia Eagles, Barkley was spotted wearing a shirt from Paul's men's personal care brand, W.

Barkley has dominated all season, much to New York Giants fans' chagrin. After the team opted to move off him, he became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. Had he not rested in Week 18, he very well could have broken Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record.

In 19 games played this season, including the postseason, Barkley has rushed for 2,447 yards and 18 touchdowns, five of which have come in his last two games.

Seven running backs have won the Super Bowl MVP, but it's been almost 30 years since the last one: Terrell Davis in 1997.

Barkley is 30 yards away breaking Davis' record for the most rushing yards in a season including playoff games.

NFL SET TO PLAY IN AUSTRALIA IN 2026 WITH MARQUEE TEAMS: REPORT

The superstar running back joined the Eagles on a three-year deal this past offseason, and it's proving to be perhaps their best move in recent memory. Out of his 19 games played, he's rushed for 100-plus 12 times and has eclipsed the 200-yard mark twice.

Including the playoffs, Barkley is averaging 128.8 rushing yards per game. So, it's certainly not out of the question that he could break the running back drought.

He'll just have to do it against the back-to-back reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Eagles star Saquon Barkley has heartwarming reaction to rookie teammate's first career TD in NFC Championship

Saquon Barkley found the end zone three times for his Philadelphia Eagles, as they walloped the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship to cement their spot in Super Bowl LIX.

But it was the last touchdown scored for Philadelphia that had Barkley jumping and screaming for joy, and there’s a big reason why.

Will Shipley, the rookie out of Clemson, is the third string running back for the Eagles. With Barkley getting the lion’s share, and veteran Kenneth Gainwell spelling him for snaps throughout the season, Shipley has mainly played special teams while getting some time in blowouts.

Well, a blowout win is what occurred at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, and Shipley was given that moment where he could pad the stats a bit. But what transpired was a career first for the young running back, as he scored his first-ever NFL touchdown

And cameras on the FOX broadcast caught Barkley’s reaction, which was simply heartwarming.

He went ballistic on the sideline, jumping up and down and screaming as Shipley celebrated on the field. And what was even more impressive than the two-yard score was Shipley’s 57-yard dash down the field that put the Eagles in the red zone once again.

Shipley had just 82 yards on 30 attempts during the regular season, picking up two first downs in the process. He played 58% of special teams snaps and only 6% on offense.

Barkley’s reaction, though, shows just how much of a team player he is, as he was hyped for his running backs room partner to get his time to shine on the playoff stage.

This isn’t anything new for Barkley in his first year with the Eagles either, as he famously told head coach Nick Sirianni to allow the backups to get their time on the field against his former New York Giants despite being just 13 rushing yards away from a career-high.

"It’s all good," he told Sirianni. "I’m good. I promise. I’d rather see the young boys eat."

Barkley would later smash that record anyway, ripping off a whopping 255 yards against the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 24, 2024, which was the ninth-highest rushing yardage in a single game in NFL history.

Everybody ate for the Eagles in this divisional demolition, and even though he wasn’t on the field, Barkley was loving every second of his teammates putting in work to cap a conference title that sends them to the "Big Game" in the "Big Easy."

NFL world mocks Giants after Saquon Barkley dominates in NFC Championship

Saquon Barkley put up more ridiculous numbers in the Philadelphia Eagles’ NFC Championship victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday night, leading to jabs at the New York Giants.

Barkley finished with 118 rushing yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns. Both scores came in the first quarter – one was a 60-yard scamper that got Eagles fans buzzing early.

As the Eagles celebrated getting to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years, NFL fans mocked the Giants for letting Barkley go in the offseason.

New York chose to re-sign Daniel Jones to a four-year contract before the 2023 season and gave Barkley a one-year deal. Before the 2024 start, the Giants let Barkley walk to free agency, much to the chagrin of Giants fans. He decided to sign with one of their archrivals.

Tom Brady and the rest of the NFL world made sure to let the Giants know they made a huge mistake.

"Giant mistake letting him go," Brady said during the FOX broadcast.

In Barkley’s first season with Philadelphia, he nearly ran for the most yards in a single season. He may have gotten the record, but he was held out of the Eagles’ last game of the season to rest for the playoffs. It turned out to be a crucial move as he has yet to let his foot off of the gas pedal in the postseason.

He has 442 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in three playoff games so far.

The Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Jason Kelce sounds off on Saquon Barkley sitting in final Eagles game, missing rushing record

Jason Kelce may understand why the Philadelphia Eagles rested running back Saquon Barkley, missing out on a chance to set the NFL's single-season rushing record.

Barkley was 101 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s record, set in 1984. But with the Eagles already locked into the No. 2 seed in the NFC entering Week 18, Barkley sat against the New York Giants.

Travis Kelce said during a recent episode of "New Heights" that people don’t realize how hard it is to rush for 100 yards in the NFL, suggesting he might not have gotten it if he played. But Jason was confident Barkley would have.

"Yeah, he would have got it. The New York Giants, Trav. He would have f------ blew that thing out the door," Jason said.

"Did I want Barkley to go for the record? You’re goddamn right. I think it would have been awesome to watch it happen."

Travis questioned what the purpose would be in going for the record and risking injury in a pointless game before the playoffs.

"Because it’s a f------ rushing record. Why would I not want to watch that happen!" Jason responded emphatically.

"But I think that it’s the right move to not play him."

EAGLES STAR JALEN HURTS’ PLAYOFF AVAILABILITY UP IN AIR AS HE REMAINS IN CONCUSSION PROTOCOL

Travis then said Barkley’s record would have required an asterisk because he would have broken it in 17 games, while Dickerson did it in 16 games. But Jason countered that if Barkley had done it, there would be no asterisk.

"If he would have had the same amount of carries Dickerson would have had through 16 games, he would have set the record there too. And we don’t put an asterisk next to Dickerson, who broke O.J. Simpson’s record at 14 games or whatever it was, broke Jim Brown’s at 12 or whatever that was. I just, dude, I think the rushing record is awesome. But I think it’s obviously the right call," Jason said.

Barkley has 345 carries this season, while Dickerson had 379 in his record-setting season.

The former Eagles center said the risk wasn’t worth the reward. If Barkley or one of the Eagles' offensive linemen got hurt and missed the playoffs due to chasing a record in a meaningless game, it would hurt a team with Super Bowl aspirations

Kelce did bring up how cool it would have been for Barkley to have had a chance to break the record against his old team.

"You’re the baddest dude in the NFL if you got that stat, and he had a chance to set that record. He had a chance to do it in the city of Philadelphia for the Eagles. He had a chance to do it against a team that literally did not pay, like, did not value him. They let him walk, and a bunch of fans were burning his jersey just earlier that year," Jason said.

"This could have been an all-time storyline, a historic moment in the NFL. So, yes, I would have loved to seen it, but it’s the right call. It’s the right call. I want to emphasize that."

The Eagles will take on the No. 7-seeded Green Bay Packers at home at 4:30 p.m. ET Sunday on FOX with a rested Barkley.

Saquon Barkley eclipses 2,000 rushing yards, joins elite company as Eagles clinch NFC East title

Saquon Barkley’s magical 2024 season with the Philadelphia Eagles continued Sunday as he became the ninth player to ever rush for 2,000 yards or more in the win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Barkley now has 2,005 yards rushing on the season after going for 167 on 31 carries in the 41-7 rout of the Cowboys, which clinched the NFC East title for Philadelphia.

Barkley reached the milestone in the fourth quarter after a 23-yard run into Dallas territory gave him his grand total of 167 on the day.

Now the question is: Will the Eagles, who clinched their playoff berth already, allow Barkley to go after Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record (2,105) against his former New York Giants in Week 18?

It’s quite normal for teams to rest their starters, but there’s all-time history on the line for Barkley and that decision by head coach Nick Sirianni will be heavily watched throughout the week.

COWBOYS SHUT DOWN STAR CEEDEE LAMB FOR REST OF SEASON DUE TO SHOULDER INJURY

Barkley already rushed for 176 yards earlier this season in his highly anticipated return to MetLife Stadium, the place he called home for the past six seasons before joining Philadelphia this offseason.

The choice to head south down I-95 has proven to be a smart one for Barkley, who is one of the frontrunners for Offensive Player of the Year given his grand rushing total that could make even more history.

Barkley has 13 rushing touchdowns on the year as well as two through the air to go along with his 276 receiving yards on 31 receptions.

The previous career high for Barkley in rushing yards was 1,312 in 2022, the year he helped lead a team back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 campaign. And he did so behind a sub-par Giants offensive line.

But he’s thrived behind this Eagles front all season long, and that was certainly needed with Jalen Hurts out in this game against the Cowboys due to a concussion suffered last week.

However, Barkley, for all his efforts on Sunday, didn’t find pay dirt. Instead, DeVonta Smith caught two passing touchdowns – one from starter Kenny Pickett and the other from Tanner McKee, who filled in for Pickett after an injury – and A.J. Brown added one himself.

Pickett was also tush-pushed into the end zone in the dominant performance by the Eagles.

At 13-3, the Eagles are ready for another Super Bowl run, but perhaps there’s more history to be had behind No. 26’s brilliant 2024 performance.

Jayden Daniels throws 5 touchdown passes as Commanders storm back to stun Eagles

The Washington Commanders never lost hope and were able to dig out from five turnovers to turn around and stun the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, 36-33.

Jayden Daniels had five touchdown passes in the game, three of which came in the fourth quarter. The Commanders were down 27-14 as the final quarter started. He threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Olamide Zaccheaus to inch the team closer.

The Commanders forced the Eagles to punt on their next drive. Daniels then found Zaccheaus for a 49-yard touchdown pass to take the lead. For another six minutes, Washington was in control but back-to-back field goals from Eagles kicker Jake Elliott gave Philadelphia a lead with under two minutes to go.

Daniels then led Washington down the field on nine plays and found wide receiver Jamison Crowder with enough space in the end zone to make the go-ahead grab with six seconds left in the game. The Commanders took the three-point lead and they won the game.

Daniels was 24-of-39 with 258 passing yards. Along with his five touchdown passes, he also threw two interceptions.

Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. had two fumbles lost and wide receiver Dyami Brown had one, contributing to the large turnover number.

But Washington ultimately benefited from Philadelphia losing quarterback Jalen Hurts in the first quarter due to a concussion. Kenny Pickett subbed in for him and had 143 passing yards, a touchdown pass, an interception and three sacks.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley had 150 rushing yards and two touchdowns. But the Eagles’ offense looked a bit anemic after scoring 21 points in the first quarter.

A.J. Brown led the team with eight catches for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Washington improved to 10-5. It’s their first 10-win season since 2012. The Eagles fell to 12-3.
