A video went viral back in December that featured Mark Gastineau confronting Brett Favre in 2023 about Michael Strahan sacking the Green Bay Packers legend to break Gastineau's single-season sack record.

In the final game of the 2001 season, Favre appeared to fall onto the field before being tackled by Strahan, giving the New York Giants legend the record. (It's since been tied by T.J. Watt.) Gastineau accused Favre of taking a "dive," and the play remains controversial.

Gastineau met Favre at a memorabilia event last year, saying that Favre had "hurt" him and that he was going to "take my sack back" in a heated exchange.

The confrontation was featured in ESPN's 30 for 30, "New York Sack Exchange;" not coincidentally, Favre said he believes the meeting had been planned by "ESPN and/or NFL Films."

"There are athletes from all sports; generally, it’s retired guys. So, you encounter a lot of different guys, but I had no clue, and I really think that was a setup by ESPN and/or NFL Films," Favre told Mihcele Tafoya on her podcast.

Favre said he had spotted a camera "hiding" above a "divider," and admitted he had been a bit worried.

"He actually came right to the table – he’s still a big guy. . . .Honestly, I was thinking, the last thing I want to have to do is fight this guy right here," Favre said.

The Hall of Fame QB added that he felt Gastineau "wasn't all there" due to his history of concussions.

Favre took to X shortly after the confrontation went viral, in an attempt to "clear the air," admitting that it "maybe" had "crossed my mind to help Strahan," but he was not trying to "hurt" Gastineau.

"I booted out of a run thinking it would be wide open, saw Strahan standing there and ducked down. The game was over. There was no need for me to do anything spectacular. It probably wasn’t Michael’s best sack or tackle for loss. In a different game or situation, I would have made a bigger effort to avoid the sack or TFL. But at no point was I thinking about hurting Gastineau," Favre pleaded.

Favre added that the incident was "not the kind of moment that should be filmed and released."

Aaron Glenn, the New York Jets’ newest head coach, brought electricity to his introductory press conference on Monday as he’s set to lead the franchise on the sideline for the next few years.

Glenn was hired after he spent time as a defensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions. Despite a ton of injuries to the Lions’ defense this season, the team still managed to win the NFC North and earn the No. 1 seed in the playoffs before getting upset by the Washington Commanders.

He is the Jets’ fourth head coach following the departure of Rex Ryan after the 2014 season. Ryan’s Jets were the last iteration of the team to earn a playoff spot. Todd Bowles, Adam Gase and Robert Saleh have since come and gone with only one season finishing over .500 — in 2015.

Glenn has a certain experience the previous field generals don’t have — he played for them.

Glenn starred as a Jets cornerback from 1994 to 2001. He was a Pro Bowler twice in that span. He also played for the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints before he retired after the 2008 season.

"Put your seatbelts on and get ready for the ride. Listen, there are gonna be some challenges, but with challenges gets opportunity. Here’s what I do know. We’re the freakin’ New York Jets and we’re built for this s---," Glenn said, via the New York Post.

"I wanted this job. I interviewed for a number of them, but I wanted this job," he added. "… I didn’t want to leave the building without shaking Woody [Johnson’s] hand and making sure we had a contract. So I’m just telling you now, everything else was already out of it. It was all about the Jets and it’s been that way from the beginning."

The fiery message now has to be backed up on the field.

Glenn and the front office will have to determine whether to bring back Aaron Rodgers and if they’re going to put Garrett Wilson on the trade block. Davante Adams has also floated the idea of playing elsewhere after New York acquired him from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan expressed hope he would get a chance to face off against Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots during the 2025 season.

Ryan reacted on ESPN to the Patriots’ decision to hire Vrabel as the team’s head coach on Sunday. It came one week after New England fired Jerod Mayo.

"Hopefully, I can kick this guy’s a-- twice a year," he said with a smile.

Ryan had interviewed to be the Jets’ head coach and suggested he was the favorite to land the job. He would replace Robert Saleh, who was fired in the middle of the season, and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, who replaced Saleh.

"The reason I think I'm going to get it is because I'm the best guy for it. It ain't close," he said, via ESPN. "The thing you have to do is, you have to connect with your football team, you have to connect with your fan base. The way they play, that's the most important thing. It's not just the Xs and Os and all that."

Aside from showing his confidence, Ryan even offered a pitch – one that took direct aim at quarterback Aaron Rodgers. 

"Clearly, when you have a guy that doesn't show up for mandatory minicamp – and, by the way, he's your quarterback, coming off an injury – I think that's an absolutely ridiculous message you send to the team," Ryan said of Rodgers missing mandatory minicamp over the summer for a trip to Egypt. 

"If he comes back, things would be different. If he's back, it ain't gonna be the country club, show up whenever the hell you want to show up. That ain't gonna happen. I'll just leave it at that."

Ryan was 46-50 as the Jets’ head coach and was the last to lead the Jets to the playoffs.

NFL fans will be watching closely this offseason what Aaron Rodgers decides to do with the next step in his career – will he pursue another year in the league or call it quits?

Rodgers had a tumultuous two years with the New York Jets, playing only one full season and throwing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns. The team was 5-12 on the year. If he chooses to play again, Rodgers would be 42 years old come next December.

Brett Favre, Rodgers’ predecessor with the Green Bay Packers, told TMZ Sports in a recent interview he thinks there’s still some juice left in the 10-time Pro Bowler.

"I think I'm right in saying that he has a lot of juice left in the tank," he said.  ""... I just think he still can play. You saw it this last game. You go, 'Well, where's that been?' 

"That's the Aaron Rodgers we know. He's making all the throws, guys are responding to him, love playing with him. Where's that been all year?"

Favre admitted he was "wrong" about how he thought Rodgers would have fared with the Jets.

"If there's any little inkling in him that wants to play and prove that he can still do it at a high level, then I would say do it," he added.

Rodgers showed glimmers of what he could bring to the table, but the lack of consistency ultimately plagued the offense.

On top of that, the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas in the middle of the season.

Both the Jets and Rodgers have a ton of decisions to weigh in the next couple of days and weeks.

Aaron Rodgers hoped to achieve milestone touchdown pass No. 500 in a New York Jets win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon but got the completely opposite result.

Rodgers was sacked four times and threw two interceptions as Buffalo defeated New York, 40-14. It was Tyrod Taylor who threw two touchdown passes in the Jets’ loss.

Instead of reaching the 500-touchdown plateau, Rodgers set a rather negative record. He became the most sacked quarterback in NFL history. He has been sacked 568 times in 247 career games – three more than Tom Brady, who was sacked 565 times in his career. Russell Wilson is right there as well with 556 sacks.

Fran Tarkenton played before the NFL started counting sacks. The stat didn’t become official until 1982. Football researchers started counting sacks before the stat was official, and Fran Tarkenton is credited with holding the unofficial record.

Rodgers could very well catch Tarkenton’s record in the Jets’ final game of the 2024 season. New York will welcome the Miami Dolphins into East Rutherford, New Jersey, next week.

The Jets quarterback has been sacked 37 times this season. He led the league twice in times sacked in his career – both when he was with the Green Bay Packers.

In 2012, he was sacked 51 times. In 2010, he was sacked 50 times.

New York fell to 4-12 on the year. The team hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2010 season and hasn't had a winning record since 2015.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers reflected on the team’s close loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday and how the team stays focused on the final two games of the regular season.

Rodgers had 256 passing yards and a touchdown pass as the Jets fell to the Rams, 19-9. He was asked about how the team will keep a positive mindset with the season nearing its end and New York out of contention for the playoffs.

"I think we’re kinda past the ‘keeping it positive’ thing," Rodgers said, via SNY. "I think it’s just about perspective. Perspective informs your truth and your truth makes your reality. 

"So, the reality of the situation is what it is, but your perspective is what you can change every single day. So, what you’re focusing on is the most important thing now. It’s not to change the reality of the situation – being 4-11, out of the playoffs, going into an unknown offseason."

Rodgers then spoke about what the next two weeks will mean in terms of building for the future of the organization.

"You gotta figure out what it means to be a professional," he said. "That's an important part of building culture. I’ve been on a couple of teams who were out of it, and it’s interesting to watch the practice habits, the preparation habits. 

"Hopefully, we’ll do the right thing, and it means a lot because everybody’s watching, and it’s a who-you-know business. There will be interesting conversations in the next couple of weeks, but just focus on the relationships we have with each other and try to finish this thing out like a pro."

The Jets underwent dramatic changes during the season, from the dismissal of their head coach and general manager to a major trade for Davante Adams.

The team could see more changes as Garrett Wilson has been noncommittal about his future with the team.

New York is 4-11 on the year.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers lives in New Jersey and has noticed the drones recently flying throughout the state. 

"Do you know what’s been going on in Jersey lately? And I’m not talking about the football, not talking about the football. There’s been some crazy things going on. There is some drones in the sky," Rodgers said during a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, who has held briefings with Homeland Security, the FBI, Secret Service and state police officials, told Fox News Monday he’s seen no evidence of concern for public safety.

A video was shown of a drone in Bedminster, New Jersey, prompting Rodgers to ask, "What the hell is that?"

Rodgers noted the drone in the video is "large" and that he doesn’t know what is going on with the drones.

"There is other videos that I’ve seen, and I’ve talked to some friends of mine that are police officers — shoutout Mario. There’s some interesting things going on. Interesting things with the drones. I don’t know what’s going on with them. Maybe it’s just some kids messing around, maybe not though," Rodgers said. 

The Jets quarterback just wants answers about what the drones are being used for.

"They need to tell us what’s going on. It's military or not military, UAP or whatever the hell it is. But there’s people in Jersey, it’s people interested on what the hell is going on with these drones."

Fox News contributor Brett Velicovich thinks these drones may not be benign, adding another country may be operating the drones. 

The large drones have been spotted with smaller, more rapidly maneuverable drones, resembling what are referred to as "drone motherships" that have been deployed in Ukraine, Russia and China. The motherships launch smaller drones, which do not have the necessary range antennas to carry them a further distance. That suggests, according to Velicovich, that a foreign adversary could be at play in New Jersey. 

Murphy said there were 49 drone sightings Sunday night alone. And though that total might be somewhat exaggerated, "it's really frustrating that we don’t have more answers as to where they’re coming from and why they’re doing what they’re doing." 

Rodgers encouraged New Jersey residents to film what they see. 

"Film it. Film all of it, especially if you live out by Woody (Johnson) and (Donald) Trump’s course. Film everything," Rodgers said.

"Be safe out there all my fellow New Jerseyans, Be safe out there."
