The Kremlin freed Marc Fogel, a teacher held for more than three years on drug charges, in a deal negotiated by Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s Middle East envoy.

The request to revoke the man’s arrest came only days after Iran released an Italian journalist. Iranian state news said the man was now in Tehran, but Italy has not confirmed that.

Marc Fogel was convicted of drug smuggling and sentenced in 2022 to 14 years in prison by the same court that handled the case of Brittney Griner.
