Carson Beck's time in the transfer portal didn't last long.

The former Georgia quarterback entered the portal Thursday, roughly a month after injuring his elbow in the SEC title game.

Backup Gunner Stockton stepped up, but the Bulldogs fell in the quarterfinals to Notre Dame.

But now Beck is already committed to his next stop, and he's soon to be a Hurricane.

"Go Canes," he wrote in an Instagram post, which featured a graphic of him in a Miami uniform and the words "Committed" and "305 Bound."

Beck's girlfriend, Hanna Cavinder, and her twin sister, Haley, star for Miami's women's basketball team. Haley is dating Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson.

The Cavinders initially said they were skipping their final year of eligibility, with Hanna completing her playing career and Haley saying she would play this season at TCU. However, they both returned to the Canes.

Beck originally declared for the NFL Draft, then entered the transfer portal this week.

Miamia is losing FBS touchdown leader Cam Ward to the NFL Draft, and Ward is in the running to be the top selection of the draft.

Beck spent five seasons at Georgia, the last two as the Bulldogs' primary starter. He has completed 68% of his passes for 7,912 yards, 58 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his college career. He appeared in 39 games for Georgia, 27 of them in the last two seasons.

He now could follow a similar path as Ward, who considered entering the 2024 NFL Draft before deciding to join Miami. Ward rewrote the Miami record book this season, completing 305 passes for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns, all new Miami single-season records.

It was a moment that Georgia cornerback Parker Jones surely wishes he could have back. 

The redshirt sophomore went viral on social media Thursday night for all the wrong reasons when he cost the Bulldogs 15 yards despite being inactive for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against Notre Dame. 

The bizarre penalty was drawn during the second quarter of the Sugar Bowl with both teams scoreless.

Quarterback Gunner Stockton connected with wide receiver Arian Smith for a 67-yard gain before getting taken down on the sideline. However, it was who Jones took down on the sideline that caused the penalty. 

Jones, a Georgia native, was animated on the sidelines cheering his teammates on when an unsuspecting official collided with him. Jones had crossed the sideline and drew an interference penalty, erasing the play and pushing the Bulldogs even farther back. 

Head coach Kirby Smart, seemingly unaware at the time of who drew the penalty, addressed the incident with reporters following Georgia’s loss.

"Very unfortunate. We had a – they said a coach, but I think it was a player who I’ve been told [was] in the white. The white is reserved for the officials," Smart began. 

"That’s a safety concern. Most of the time they’ll grant you a warning on that, but it was a situation where it cost us 15 yards. We still had first-and-10 and didn’t take advantage of it. But, again, I call those things undisciplined, self-imposed wounds that you lose momentum on. It’s something you can’t have happen." 

All things considered, it was probably the best response Jones could have hoped for. 

However, it was not Jones’ lapse in judgement that led to Georgia’s downfall in the playoffs. 

Georgia outgained Notre Dame 296-244, but went 0-of-3 on fourth downs, 2-of-12 on third downs and allowed a 98-yard kickoff return to open the second half.

College football fans showed their patriotism Thursday afternoon at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. 

Before Notre Dame and Georgia played their College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Caesars Superdome, there was a moment of silence for those killed and injured in the New Orleans terror attack New Year’s Day. 

More than a dozen people were killed and many more were injured when Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a truck through a crowd on New Orleans' Bourbon Street.

After the moment of silence was completed inside the Caesars Superdome, the crowd erupted into "U-S-A!" chants. 

The singing of the national anthem followed with a large American flag covering the turf.

The terror attack prompted the postponement of the Sugar Bowl, which determines who will play No. 6 Penn State in one semifinal of the College Football Playoff. 

Authorities opened Bourbon Street hours before the game Thursday, which Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry attended. 

"Security is going to be tight," Landry said during an appearance on "Fox & Friends." "We have all confidence that we’re gonna put this game on. The Superdome is completely secure. Again, the FBI continues to pour resources into the state."

Many reacted to the senseless act of violence, including Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, who spoke to his team about what happened. 

"The first part of that meeting was to mourn and pray for our country," he said during an appearance on ESPN.

"In the toughest moments, the culture of any program, of a nation, are revealed. I have a lot of faith we're going to rally around the city of New Orleans and support all the victims and families that were affected today."

A Georgia Bulldogs football player who was inactive for the Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame Thursday evening drew a bizarre penalty.

Parker Jones was on the sideline for the game and cost his team crucial yardage in the second quarter.

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton hooked up with Arian Smith for a 66-yard pass. As Smith ran up the field, the sideline official ran with him. The official, however, ran into Jones on the sideline. Georgia was penalized for sideline interference, and it cost the Bulldogs 10 yards.

Two runs and an incomplete pass later, the Bulldogs had to settle for a field goal. Bulldogs kicker Peyton Woodring converted a 41-yard field goal.

The penalty drew reaction on social media.

Notre Dame scored twice in the closing seconds of the first half and took a 13-3 lead into the half.

Jones, a cornerback, is a redshirt sophomore from Albany, Georgia. He has yet to play a snap for the Bulldogs in his career.

The College Football Playoff quarterfinal was played a day after a terror attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. More than a dozen people were killed when a suspect identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove through a crowd of people. Several others were injured in the attack.

The Sugar Bowl had been postponed from Wednesday to Thursday evening.

It was a rough start for Notre Dame in its College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against Georgia Thursday. 

The Fighting Irish began the Sugar Bowl with back-to-back penalties on defense and another on quarterback Riley Leonard on Notre’s Dame’s opening drive. 

Defensive lineman Bryce Young, a true freshman, was called for back-to-back running into the kicker penalties after colliding with Georgia punter Drew Miller. The first resulted in a 5-yard penalty, but the second penalty was declined.

Things didn’t look much better on Notre Dame’s opening drive. 

Leonard was called for an illegal forward pass after he made two pass attempts. His first pass was deflected by Georgia junior Mykel Williams. After he caught the ball that ricocheted off Williams’ hand, Leonard attempted another incomplete pass.

The game was tied 0-0 after the first quarter. Georgia’s defense limited Notre Dame to 24 yards in the first quarter. Leonard completed just one pass for 14 yards. The teams traded field goals in the second quarter.

The Sugar Bowl is being played in the Superdome in New Orleans Thursday after being postponed a day after a deadly terror attack on Bourbon Street that claimed the lives of at least 15 people and injured dozens more.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into what was nearly a catastrophe as a Delta flight almost crashed into the Gonzaga men’s basketball charter plane at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Friday. 

Footage of the moment showed that Delta Flight 471 was about to take off when an air-traffic controller was heard screaming, "Stop, stop, stop!" at the charter plane carrying the men’s basketball team across the runway. 

Luckily, the warning worked as the Atlanta-bound flight took off without crashing into the Gonzaga charter. 

At the time of the incident, the team had recently landed at LAX on a flight operated by Key Lime Air, a Colorado-based airline that provides charter services.

A plane spotter, Kevin Ray, also uploaded footage of the incident on YouTube, and they could be heard saying, "Wow!" as it was extremely close to being a very serious situation. 

Most commercial planes reach between 150 and 180 miles per hour before takeoff, depending on the weight of the aircraft. So, the impact of the charter plane could have been lethal.

"In the years I’ve been doing this, I’ve never heard a ATC controller tell a plane to ‘Stop, stop, stop,’" the plane spotter was heard saying. 

Delta told Fox News Digital on Monday it was unaware of an FAA investigation into the incident.

"Delta flight 471 operated as normal, and we are not aware of any communication from the FAA regarding this flight," a spokesperson said. "We are cooperating with aviation officials on their investigation."

The near-collision came days after a Jeju Air flight crashed in South Korea, killing 179 people. Jeju Air Flight 2216 was attempting to land at Muan International Airport in Muan County, South Jeolla Province, at the time of the catastrophe.

The No. 19 Gonzaga men’s basketball team had landed in Los Angeles from Spokane, Washington for their matchup on Saturday against No. 15 UCLA.

The Bruins defeated the Bulldogs, 65-62, with star guard Eric Dailey Jr. scoring 18 for UCLA. Gonzaga’s Graham Ike had 24 points with eight rebounds and two assists. 

The Bulldogs’ Ryan Nembhard had a chance to tie the game at 63 apiece with a free throw, but despite usual success at the charity stripe, he missed to keep the Bruins lead at one with 10 seconds left and UCLA never let it slip.

Gonzaga remains in California as they’re set to face the Pepperdine Waves on Monday night before heading back to Washington in the new year.

As Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, his social media star girlfriend couldn’t be prouder. 

Hanna Cavinder, the Miami Hurricanes basketball star, celebrated Beck’s announcement on Instagram underneath his post on the matter. 

"Proud of you," the 23-year-old simply wrote in the comments.

Cavinder has been spotted at numerous Georgia games this season supporting her boyfriend, the two-time national champion who is hoping to make it three titles by the end of the College Football Playoff. 

However, Beck’s announcement comes before Georgia’s fate in the playoff is known due to surgery needed to repair an injury that ends his 2024 campaign. Beck suffered an elbow injury in Georgia’s SEC Championship win over Texas on the final play of the first half as he tried to heave a Hail Mary.

Gunner Stockton, Beck’s backup who helped lead the Bulldogs to that SEC title win over the Longhorns, will be starting the rest of the way for Kirby Smart’s group. 

"First off I want to thank God, for blessing me with the opportunity to play the game I love," Beck wrote in his Instagram post. "Through the ups and downs, the highs and lows, everything that this game produces and provides I’m eternally grateful for. Football has taught me lessons that will last a lifetime and has grown me into the person I am today."

Beck, 22, finishes his Georgia career with 3,485 yards and 28 passing touchdowns against 12 interceptions in 2024. 

It will be interesting to see how Beck’s draft stock comes out after interviews and the NFL Scouting Combine, as his production dipped in a season in which some believed he could cement himself as a top pick if he continued to improve upon his 2023 season, when he was full-time starter for the first time. 

Beck’s play, especially toward the end of the season, brought about many questions about how his game would translate to the NFL. 

Meanwhile, Cavinder, whose twin sister, Haley, already dates an NFL star in Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson, continues to play her women’s basketball season with the Hurricanes. They both star for Miami after helping them reach the Elite Eight in last season’s NCAA Tournament. 

Cavinder and Beck’s relationship was confirmed this past summer.

Dontae Walker, a former Mississippi State Bulldogs running back who played in more than 40 games for the team from 1999 to 2002, has died, the school announced Saturday. He was 44.

Mississippi State put out a statement on X: "The Mississippi State Family mourns the passing of Dontae Walker. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and teammates."

Walker got his start with the Bulldogs in 1999 and put together a solid freshman season, running for 384 yards and three touchdowns. He really broke out in 2000 and 2001 as he ran for more than 1,200 yards with 14 touchdowns over the course of those seasons. He also played in the 2000 Independence Bowl, known as "The Snow Bowl."

However, Walker’s tenure with Mississippi State came to a tumultuous end as he only appeared in eight games in 2002 and was cut from the team before the year was over. In the final game of his collegiate career, Walker heard boos from the fans when he heard his name. He then walked to the locker room.

He told the Clarion-Ledger in 2013 he wished he would have blocked out the noise at that time.

"There was more cheering than booing, but when I heard that booing, I couldn’t take it," he told the newspaper. "I did a lot for Mississippi State with winning bowl games and helping recruit players there. It was a hurting feeling. But I learned from it."

He finished his career with 1,875 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns in his career.

Walker’s life off the field was derailed when he was arrested for marijuana and cocaine possession in 2005. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison but was released in 2009.

Walker was playing for the Birmingham Steeldogs of the Arena Football League at the time of his arrest.

He never got a chance to play in the NFL, but he earned a bachelor’s degree from Belhaven University in 2013.

Carson Beck’s collegiate career has officially come to an end.

The Georgia quarterback took to social media Saturday to announce his decision to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, just five days after Beck underwent season-ending elbow surgery. 

"The past five years at the University of Georgia have been nothing short of a dream come true and I will forever cherish the memories that have been made," Beck said in a post on Instagram.

"Thank you Dawg Nation for the time I've been here and to those who’ve supported and believed in me, thank you. It’s been an incredible journey and all these moments have ultimately led me to take the next step in my football career. With that being said, I will be declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. Go Dawgs!" 

Beck was injured in the first half of the Bulldogs' overtime victory over Texas in the SEC championship game earlier this month. 

He underwent surgery Monday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm and is expected to begin throwing in the spring.

Despite having another year of eligibility, Beck declared for the draft after back-to-back seasons as Georgia’s starter with a 24-3 record.

Football has taught me lessons that will last a lifetime and has grown me into the person I am today," his statement said.

"I’m so grateful for my family and those close to me for the support they’ve provided me during this Journey. They’ve always had my back no matter what the circumstance, and I can’t thank them enough for that." 

Gunner Stockton took over in Beck’s absence with hopes of leading Georgia to another national championship. The Bulldogs face Notre Dame in the CFP quarterfinals in the Sugar Bowl Wednesday.
