The woman who gave birth on a New York City subway has been identified as a missing Florida woman who was last seen in August, according to reports.
The ex-boyfriend of 25-year-old Jenny Saint Pierre reported her missing on Aug. 5, 2024, according to the Hallandale Beach Police Department.
"MISSING PERSON ALERT. We need your help to locate 25-year-old Jenny Saint Pierre, missing since August, 5, 2024," a previous post on X from police read.
"Please share and help bring Jenny home safely."

Investigators told CBS News Miami that Pierre was schizophrenic and that she could be in danger. Pierre's family also expressed concern to police, saying that she was "excited about becoming a mother," but were worried something may have happened to her.
Pierre's ex-boyfriend told her sister that they had an argument, which made her angry, and then she left, the outlet reported.
However, Pierre's family's worst fears were debunked on Wednesday after she made national headlines.
New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said just after 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a train conductor was notified by numerous passengers that a woman had given birth inside a subway car.

Witnesses told the New York Times that, thanks to the swift actions of some good Samaritans, Pierre was taken care of after they jumped in to help deliver the baby before EMS arrived.
Crichlow added that EMS transported Pierre and her new baby girl to a hospital. Both are said to be in good condition.
"This is another example of New Yorkers coming together to help each other, assisted by caring transit workers and other responders, reflecting the best of the subway community and this city," Crichlow said.

Pierre’s mother told the Times that she was happy to learn that her daughter was safe and that she was a grandmother.
"I’ve been thinking about my daughter every day, praying every day that she’s OK, that her baby is OK," she told the newspaper. "I’m going to sleep good tonight."
She added that her daughter and new granddaughter could return home anytime and that their entire family would be waiting for them.
"We will always be there for her, and for her baby," she said.
It was not immediately known why Pierre fled to New York or how long she was living there.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Hallandale Beach Police Department but did not immediately receive a response.

Two Guatemalan illegal immigrants are accused of human trafficking after police found two women at a residence in Lake Worth Beach that was "actively being used as a brothel," according to authorities.
Yudvin and Glin Zunigalatin are charged with human trafficking, deriving proceeds from prostitution, holding a house of ill fame and resisting, according to county records. Glin Zunigalatin is also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and sexual battery.
Authorities initially responded to the suspects' residence after they received a phone call around 7:45 a.m. on Feb. 9 from a young woman who reported being held against her will, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
The caller "stated she was sexually assaulted, she was at a club and that someone was going to kill her and she doesn’t want to die," an arrest warrant states.
The woman was unaware of her exact location but said she had been confined in a house for multiple days by two men, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies were able to trace the call to a densely populated area and searching for signs of unusual activity. Eventually, they observed two males exhibiting "suspicious behavior" outside a residence located on the 1400 block of Lake Ave, Lake Worth Beach. Police said in the arrest warrant that the residence was "actively being used as a brothel" and was part of a "larger brothel case."

When deputies made contact with the two men, they "appeared nervous."
"A third unknown male was complying with lawful order and was asked to step outside. Once he went outside he took off running and disappeared," the arrest warrant states.
Authorities were able to "visually confirm the presence of a female inside the residence" and made entry into the home. They rescued two victims of a "potential human trafficking operation" and arrested Yudvin and Glin Zunigalatin.

A preliminary investigation revealed that both victims were recruited under false pretenses and forced to perform sex acts.
The first victim told authorities that the brothers approached her at Miami International Airport and offered her a job making scam calls that would pay $200 per day. She apparently took them up on the offer, and they drove from the airport to the Lake Worth Beach home, where she was shown to her room and confined there for days. She alleged the brothers told her she could leave if she wanted, but she "would be hunted down and hurt," which she interpreted as killed.
The second victim told police that the suspects promised her a job cleaning houses in West Palm Beach. On what was supposed to be her first day of work, one of the suspects picked her up in his vehicle and drove her to the Lake Worth Beach residence, where he and another man made clear that she would instead be forced into prostitution.
At one point, she said she overheard two men arguing outside her room with another victim, and one of the men said, "I will fill you with bullets," the arrest report states.
The suspects are being held on no bond, and authorities placed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers on both men.
An American woman is suing the Tate brothers, influencers Andrew and Tristan, for allegedly luring her to Romania for sex work and then suing her for defamation after she cooperated with police there who charged the brothers of trafficking women and girls.
After the brothers sued Jane Doe for alleged libel and slander in 2023, her lawyers filed a countersuit in Florida Monday that accuses the brothers of, among other things, witness intimidation, "lawfare," defamation and human trafficking.
The 183-page filing describes them as "self-confessed webcam pimps and pornographers who made their first million dollars from lying and deceiving women."

Andrew Tate, 38, is a former kickboxer and mixed martial artist who, along with his 37-year-old brother, is an internet personality. The lawsuit disputes their self-characterizations as businessmen.
"To disrupt the Romanian prosecution, and in a clear case of witness intimidation, THE TATE BROTHERS have sued JANE DOE, an American citizen, who was lured from Florida to Romania by TRISTAN TATE under the pretense of a romantic relationship," the lawsuit alleges. "THE TATE BROTHERS’ lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $5,000,000, damages that allegedly exist merely because JANE DOE expressed her very real fears and concerns for her safety to her family and friends in private text messages and, because she cooperated with Romanian law enforcement after they raided THE TATE BROTHERS’ compound."

In the brothers' 2023 lawsuit, they accused Doe of fabricating evidence against them. It also names her parents and two friends as defendants for their role in a phone call alerting U.S. embassy officials in Romania to Doe's alleged trafficking.
"The Tate brothers’ lawsuit against Doe is a grave abuse of process brought—not for any legitimate purpose—but instead, to bully and harass Doe into recanting her testimony," Pinter said. "Doe was left with no choice but to countersue, and deserves every measure of justice."
Romanian police arrested the Tate brothers in 2022 and seized more than a dozen luxury cars along with nearly $4 million in other items.
They were arrested again alongside four others in August 2024 in connection with a criminal human trafficking ring investigation. There is another criminal investigation ongoing in the United Kingdom, where the brothers are expected to be extradited after their case plays out in Romania.
They have denied the allegations against them and call Doe a false accuser.
Doe's attorneys said the counterclaim is the first U.S. lawsuit against the brothers. They are seeking an unspecified sum in damages and attorney fees, a court order barring the Tate brothers from contacting or defaming their client and any other relief the court finds proper.
The largest male white shark ever caught, tagged and released is approaching Florida's east coast, near Jacksonville.
Contender, a 13.8-foot, 1,653 pound adult shark, was tagged on Jan. 17 in the western Northwest Atlantic, off the Florida-Georgia border.
He appears to be moving south, most recently surfacing near St. Augustine at about 10 a.m. Thursday., according to OCEARCH, the research group that tagged Contender.

It’s been 18 years since a South Florida community was rocked by a series of murders and a kidnapping at a local mall, and a retired FBI agent who worked on the cases for over a decade believes the crimes are connected and that the killer may still be "out there."
After shopping at the Boca Raton Town Center Mall, mother of two Randi Gorenberg and Nancy Bochicchio and her 7-year-old daughter Joey were murdered, and another mother known as Jane Doe was kidnapped with her 2-year-old son, all within a nine-month timeframe in 2007.
"I heard about them just like everybody else on the news, and it was just horrible," retired FBI Agent John MacVeigh, who investigated the three cases for 10 years, told Fox News Digital. "We contacted Boca Police Department, knowing that it was something that, you know, we could possibly assist."
Gorenberg, 52, was last seen on surveillance video walking out of the Town Center Mall in the early afternoon of March 23, 2007. About 45 minutes later, someone called 911 from a park about five miles away, claiming to hear gunshots and seeing someone being pushed out of a vehicle. Authorities soon found Gorenberg's body at Governor Lawton Chiles Memorial Park.
"It does appear that she resisted at some point," MacVeigh said of Gorenberg. "She was shot and basically thrown out the car while the suspect drove away."
Less than five months later, Jane Doe and her young son were kidnapped from the parking lot at the same mall. MacVeigh described the harrowing incident as Jane Doe got into her SUV Aug. 7, 2007.
"She puts her son from the passenger side into the center car seat. She walks around to the trunk," MacVeigh said. "She opens the trunk. She puts the stroller in. She walks back around. As she opens the door to get in the driver's seat, the suspect had already jumped in the back passenger seat. Now, you're talking seconds … so he had to be extremely close to her."
The suspect forced Jane Doe to drive to an ATM and take out $600.
"Just terrified. I mean, she's in the car with her 2-year-old, and this man has got a gun on her and threatening her," MacVeigh said.
Unusually, the perpetrator seemed to be "a little bit sympathetic" toward the mother and son, the retired FBI agent added. The gunman decided to drive them back to the mall, where he put blacked-out swim goggles over her eyes and handcuffed her wrists before fleeing.
MacVeigh said, to escape, Jane Doe "took the handcuffs and went up under her feet around to get out from behind her back" and then drove to the valet and reported the attack.
"It was just so blatant and bizarre because you just wouldn't think that somebody would be accosted in the middle of the day — handcuffed, blindfolded — forced to go to an ATM and then brought back to the same location and dropped off," he said. "It wasn't the norm."
'DATING GAME KILLER' KEPT 'TROPHIES' THAT ULTIMATELY LED TO HIS DOWNFALL: DETECTIVE
Four months later, 47-year-old Bochicchio and her young daughter Joey went shopping at the Boca Raton Town Center Dec. 12, 2007. And, just like in the case of the abduction, authorities believe they were attacked as they were trying to leave the mall's parking lot.
Investigators believe they were abducted and taken to an ATM, where they were forced to withdraw $500 and that the suspect used duct tape, plastic ties, handcuffs and goggles to bind and control Bochicchio and her daughter, according to the Boca Raton Police Department's website.
"Nancy resists. She breaks her handcuffs. We do believe that she tried to get Joey out of the car, and then he turned around and shot both of them," MacVeigh said.
Officers found the mother and daughter dead shortly before midnight in their vehicle in the mall's parking lot with the car's engine still running, police say.

Now a private investigator, MacVeigh observed an similar theme in all three attacks tied to the local mall.
"The suspect was trying to control women," he explained. In both the Jane Doe and Bochicchio cases, the suspect used a pair of blacked-out swim goggles, as well as other material, to bind and control the victims.
MacVeigh said another repeated detail was the time of day. All three crimes took place in "broad daylight" and "right around the same time."
"It's not a small little coincidence. There's not … one or two small things. This is an accumulation of things," he added, referring to the related details among the cases.

Detectives with the Boca Raton Police Department and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office created a task force in January 2007 to work together on solving the Gorenberg and Bochicchio murders, according to the Boca Raton Police Department website. However, the task force later disbanded, and both departments continued working on the individual cases with the FBI's assistance, MacVeigh said.
Investigators collected several hundred pieces of evidence from the Bochicchio crime, including DNA samples, and "a massive investigation involving resources from around the country" unfolded, the Boca Raton police website added. Detectives went through hours of surveillance video, searched various locations and followed up on leads.

"We sent agents to the mall because they were interested in trying to find out if maybe it was somebody that had worked there," MacVeigh said. "We issued subpoenas, and we went door to door. It was pretty overwhelming because you don't realize how many people work at that mall. And I think the number when we were done was somewhere in the neighborhood of 14,000."
After her abduction, authorities spoke with Jane Doe about the individual who attacked her and created a composite sketch to try to determine his identity.
"You and I could both be that composite. I mean, it's just you have a hat on with glasses and all you're seeing is the bottom part of the face," MacVeigh explained about the drawing's details.

Despite two people of interest being initially identified in the Bochicchio case, according to police, all three cases remain unsolved, and MacVeigh believes the crimes are all connected.
"It's just so hard to believe that it's not the same person," MacVeigh said. "Three of these incidences … in the same area, and very similar. Here you have a very affluent mall … and, you know, you are targeting people that you suspect have money.
"While there is presently no physical or forensic evidence directly linking this case to any other investigations, there are enough similarities to lead Boca Raton investigators to believe this case is related to the August 7, 2007 Town Center Mall carjacking incident," the Boca Raton Police Department states on its website, referring to the Bochicchio murders being related to the Jane Doe abduction.

MacVeigh said he continues to get calls from investigators who are still tracking down new leads and working on the case today.
"As technology changes and evolves regarding DNA testing, this case is continuously being reevaluated. We remain optimistic that technological advances will lead our investigators to a breakthrough in the investigation," Jessica Desir, a spokesperson for the Boca Raton Police Department, told WPTV last month regarding the Bochicchio murders.
MacVeigh explained that although the Boca Raton Town Center Mall might have more security measures in place today, a killer is still "out there probably committing other crimes."
"You want to feel safe going to the mall," MacVeigh added, stressing the importance of finally solving the cases and getting justice for the Gorenberg and Bochicchio families.
The Boca Raton Police Department, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and Boca Raton Town Center Mall did not immediately respond for comment.
Prosecutors released footage this week of alleged victims detailing their claims of sexual assault by the Alexander brothers, accused of drugging and then sexually assaulting and raping dozens of women across multiple states.
Miami-Dade prosecutors released the videos on Tuesday as part of the state's cases against Oren and Alon Alexander, according to NBC6.
Tal, 38, and Oren Alexander, 37, two prominent jet-setting brokers in New York and Miami, and their brother Alon Alexander, Oren's identical twin, were arrested in Miami Beach on Dec. 11 and have since been taken into federal custody.
"I was scared for my life, just because of what I just experienced," one woman whose identity was concealed said in the footage. "Not only the rapes, but just, like, how they were."

On Dec. 31, 2016, she thought she was meeting Alon Alexander for a barbecue at a Miami Beach condo. But unexpectedly, she said, his twin brother Oren and a third man, Ohad Fisherman, were waiting for her arrival.
"[Fisherman] just pushed me down and had his knees and hands on my shoulders holding me down," she recalled in the video, according to NBC6. "I was crying, and I know the whole time I was asking them not to do it . . . I was just like 'Please no, please no.'"
The woman claimed that Alon and Oren took turns raping her while Fisherman held her in place, according to her interview with investigators. All three men face sexual battery charges and are awaiting trial; Fisherman is not accused of raping the woman.
The woman confided in family and friends about the terrifying ordeal but said she was too frightened of the men to report the attack at the time, NBC6 reported.
"They just had this weird presence about them," she said. "It was just very, very, very scary."
In October 2021, Oren allegedly invited another woman to his Flamingo Drive home. What was initially a flirtatious encounter devolved into assault, she said.
"I start pulling away and as I pull away, he starts getting aggressive, kissing me, holding me firmly. He ripped the top of my dress," the second woman said in footage released this week. "He pushed me onto his bed, and I laid there stiff and in shock, and he got on top of me."

Joel Denaro and Edward O'Donnell IV, attorneys representing Oren and Alon, told NBC6 that the accusers' stories "will collapse not only under their own weight but with evidence that will prove they are not believable."
"Aside from the obvious financial reward they are seeking after eight years of not reporting to law enforcement, we will show evidence, witnesses, and motivations contradicting their stories," he told the outlet.
Fisherman's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
Currently, Oren, Alon and Tal are in federal custody in New York. There, they are facing sex trafficking charges, but they deny allegations against them.
Law enforcement officers have interviewed over 40 women, who reported "being forcibly raped or sexually assaulted by at least one of the Alexander Brothers," according to a recent letter by the prosecution, obtained by Fox News Digital.

In many of these alleged instances, "one or more of the Alexander Brothers drugged their victim prior to the rape," prosecutors wrote in the letter addressed to U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni.
Each of the brothers has separately been accused by at least 10 women of forcible rape between 2002 or 2003 and 2021, according to the letter.

Authorities executed a warrant on Dec. 11 to search Tal Alexander's apartment inside a skyscraper on Manhattan's "Billionaire's Row." During the search, multiple hard drives were discovered and seized, including one with a large quantity of sexually explicit videos and pictures, according to the letter and prosecutor's statement during a hearing earlier this month.
The apartment was previously shared by Oren and Tal Alexander, the letter continues, adding that the photos and videos were found on a hard drive in a closet that appeared to include items belonging to Oren.

The seized photos and videos depict "at least Oren, Alon, and several third parties recording or photographing themselves with women in states of intoxication and undress," and in multiple videos, "the women appear initially unaware that they were being recorded and became upset and attempted to hide or flee from the camera after realizing they were being filmed," prosecutors wrote.
All three brothers were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and a separate count of sex trafficking of one woman by force, fraud or coercion. In addition, Tal Alexander was charged with the sex trafficking of a second victim.
Earlier this month, Judge Caproni denied bail, finding that the Alexander brothers pose a flight risk and a risk to the community. She said the evidence is strong, adding that the men pose a danger to unsuspecting women.
Alon Alexander appealed that decision on Tuesday, according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.
Oren and Tal Alexander co-founded the real estate firm Official, which offers luxury listings in places like New York City, the Hamptons, Miami and Los Angeles, in 2022 after rising through the ranks at Douglas Elliman, one of the largest real estate brokerages in the country, according to prosecutors.
Their past clients include Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Liam Gallagher and Lindsay Lohan, according to CBS News.

Newly released body camera footage shows the moment a Miami Beach Police officer shot a fellow officer in the leg while struggling with a man on a busy Florida roadway.
Officer Shenaqua Stringer was responding to a 911 call reporting a suspicious person possibly carrying a gun while walking on Venetian Causeway shortly before 12:30 p.m. March 2, according to the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office.
The suspect reached into his pocket to grab an "unknown object" as Stringer approached him, investigators said.
Stringer drew her gun and began struggling with the man, ordering him to the ground as fellow officer Fabio Balanos arrived. Balanos ran toward the struggle, and Stringer accidentally fired, striking Balanos in his left leg.

Stringer’s body camera was not rolling at the time of the shooting, which was not directly recorded on Balanos' camera. But, moments later, a growing puddle of blood appeared beneath him.

Stringer then handcuffed the suspect as she called for help.
"Hurry up, because I need a tourniquet," Balanos said.

Balanos’ bodycam captured the moment more officers arrived and wrapped a tourniquet around his leg as he wailed in pain and they loaded him into the back of a police cruiser.
During the ride to the hospital, Balanos asked another officer if he could borrow a phone to call his wife.
"I’m OK," Balanos told her. "I got shot in the leg. I'm OK though. They’re taking me to Ryder Trauma right now. I’m OK, though. All right, babe? I love you."
The bodycam continued rolling as Balanos arrived at the hospital, showing officers frantically banging on the doors to alert medical staff that they needed help.
"Open up, let's go," one officer can be heard yelling as they knocked on the hospital doors.

As Balanos was being treated for his injuries at a hospital, officers discovered the suspected handgun the man reached for was a metallic cigarette lighter.
The man was not charged with a crime, and authorities determined he was a missing person from nearby Collier County.
The situation remains an active internal investigation, and Stringer is still employed by the agency, the Miami Beach Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital.
The district attorney determined there was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges against Stringer.
The South Florida Police Benevolent Association did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suggested Wednesday he will veto a state Republican-sponsored immigration bill he said would weaken illegal immigration enforcement.
The threat of a veto comes as DeSantis continues to feud with state Republican lawmakers, saying they passed a watered-down immigration bill.
"We must have the strongest law in the nation on immigration enforcement. We cannot be weak," DeSantis wrote on X. "The bill that narrowly passed the Florida legislature last night fails to honor our promises to voters, fails to meet the moment, and would actually weaken state immigration enforcement."

This week, the GOP-dominated Florida legislature gaveled out a special session called by the two-term governor to take up a series of proposals to help with President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown.
Instead, state lawmakers held their own special session, where they passed other immigration bills and overrode a DeSantis budget veto, the first time in 15 years the legislature has overturned a Florida governor's veto.
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION MOVES QUICKLY ON IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT
Hours after lawmakers passed the Tackling and Reforming Unlawful Migration Policy Act, or TRUMP Act, DeSantis said, "The veto pen is ready."
He called the bill a weak effort to arrest and deport illegal immigrants, specifically those with criminal records.
"The removal of illegal aliens residing in our state requires strong legislation that will guarantee state and local deportation assistance, end catch and release, eliminate magnets such as remittances, and adopt supporting policies that will protect Floridians from the scourge of illegal immigration," he wrote.
Authorities arrested a Florida Democratic Party official and prominent LGBTQ activist on child pornography charges this month after he allegedly shared content with an undercover officer.
Matthew Inman, 39, served as treasurer for the Orange County Democratic Party and also as president of Rainbow Democrats, an LGBTQ activist group. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the middle district of Florida charged Inman with the transportation of child sexual abuse material. Authorities say Inman received and saved several videos "depicting adults sexually abusing young children."
"In October 2024, Inman traveled to Las Vegas and began talking online with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as the father of a 9-year-old boy. During this conversation, Inman expressed interest in meeting and sexually assaulting the purported child. He also sent [child sexual abuse material] videos to the undercover officer," the attorney's office added.
The FBI soon obtained a search warrant for Inman's house, and authorities say the suspect tried to delete videos from his phone as he hid from officers in the attic of his home.

Rainbow Democrats issued a public statement on social media just days after Inman's arrest, saying they were "shocked."
"We offer our condolences to any victims of child sexual abuse and hope justice will be served to the fullest extent of the law," the organization's board of directors wrote. "We have suspended Mr. Inman from the Caucus. He has no acting role in any capacity with the organization as of now. He will be officially removed at our next general meeting."

"The Rainbow Democrats are working to move beyond this horrible incident to continue our service to the community," the statement finished.
An X account appearing to belong to Inman identified him as an "LGBTQ+ rights and civil rights activist." The account also notes his roles with Rainbow Democrats and Orange County Democrats.
Orange County Democrats also released a statement regarding Inman's arrest, and has since elected a new treasurer.
"We are deeply appalled and horrified by the news that Matthew Inman has been arrested on charges of sexual abuse involving a minor. We unequivocally condemn child sexual abuse in the strongest possible terms and hope that any victims involved receive the support and resources they need moving forward," the party wrote.
"After learning of the allegations against Mr. Inman, the Orange County Democratic Party acted swiftly to suspend him from all voluntary roles and responsibilities. We will continue to uphold the highest standards of accountability and integrity," the statement continued.
Inman was booked by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 16 and remains in custody at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, according to state records.

The governor wants to mandate that Florida's counties and cities participate in the federal deportation program and wants the power to suspend officials who do not comply. He is also proposing to make it a state crime to enter the nation illegally, and he wants to mandate that people show identification and their immigration status before sending money back home.
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION MOVES QUICKLY ON IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT
"We've got to make sure that we are working hand-in-hand with the Trump administration," DeSantis emphasized last week in an interview on Fox News' "Ingraham Angle."
He added that the special legislative session would help "to facilitate the Trump administration's mission."
Eleven bills were filed on the eve of the special session by Florida lawmakers. Among them are measures to create a state immigration czar and to allow the governor to activate the national and state guards for immigration enforcement.
Under Florida's constitution, if the governor calls for a special session, lawmakers are obligated to show up at the capitol in Tallahassee. However, the top Republicans in the state House and Senate say that while they support Trump's immigration efforts, the special session is unnecessary with the regularly scheduled legislative session scheduled for early March.
"It's not premature," DeSantis told Fox News. "We've been waiting four years to have a partner in Washington, D.C., on this issue. We have a sense of urgency. We have to get the job done. No more dragging your feet."
DeSantis, who waged a bitter and unsuccessful primary challenge against Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, was praised by the then-president-elect earlier this month.
"Thank you Ron, hopefully other governors will follow!" Trump wrote in a social media post after DeSantis announced the special session.
However, the pushback by GOP state lawmakers over the calling of the special session is a dramatic turn of events for DeSantis, who long enjoyed massive influence over the Florida legislature, especially after his nearly 20-point re-election in 2022.
Following his unsuccessful 2024 White House bid, the lame duck governor does not appear to have the same clout over lawmakers that he once enjoyed.
Pushing back against opposition to his plans, DeSantis has warned that any lawmaker who stood in his way over the special session would pay a political price.
