Two Southern California theme parks are offering free tickets to firefighters and other first responders as a way to say thank you for their work in combating the deadly and destructive wildfires that ravaged the area for the last month.

Universal Studios Hollywood announced their "First Responder Heroes Ticket Offer" on Jan. 31. 

"To thank those who assisted our community, all eligible active U.S.-based first responders can enjoy one complimentary general admission ticket and a 50% savings on up to three additional tickets, now through April 10, 2025," said the park's website.

DISNEY REVEALS FATE OF CLOSED STAR WARS HOTEL

The offer is available to "eligible active U.S. based first responders at either a public or private agency/entity," including paramedics/emergency medical technicians, firefighters, police officers/Sherriff's deputies, and National Guard members, said Universal Studios Hollywood. 

"The selfless dedication and tireless resilience exhibited by the first responders in response to combating the L.A. wildfires has been nothing short of extraordinary and we are very grateful to these unsung heroes for their courage during this difficult time," Scott Strobl, the executive vice president and general manager of Universal Studios Hollywood said in a statement. 

Strobl continued, "When these first responders are ready for a much needed break, we look forward to welcoming them to our theme park."

Tickets can only be picked up in person and first responders must show a "valid government-issued photo ID and valid employee ID card for qualifying first responder occupation," said Universal Studios Hollywood.

On Feb. 7, Disneyland announced a similar offer for local first responders, calling it the "Heroes Ticket." The "Heroes Ticket" is two free one-day "park hopper" tickets, which include entry to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. 

"We are inspired by the endless dedication and contributions of the heroes who battled the fires that took place in the LA area, and our gratitude for their service is immeasurable," said Ken Potrock, president of Disneyland Resort, in a statement released by Disneyland.

"We hope these heroes can enjoy a memorable day with a loved one at our parks, because they certainly deserve it," said Potrock. 

The Heroes Ticket is available for "eligible California firefighters as well as eligible Los Angeles-based law enforcement personnel and emergency medical technicians who helped combat the LA fires in January 2025," said the release from Disneyland. "The Heroes Ticket will also be available to eligible individuals from other departments that provided mutual aid assistance." 

The complementary tickets will be valid Mondays through Thursdays from May 5 through Aug. 7, 2025, said Disneyland, and will require a theme park reservation. 

Additional information will be sent to eligible fire, police, and sheriff departments in April, said the press release. 

Those of us old enough to remember traveling before the age of smartphones and mobile internet know we have it pretty good these days. You can find the best flights using comparison sites, choose among hundreds of hotels on a single booking site, get tickets sent to your phone rather than picking them up in person, check in online, order a ride and you’re off. 

All this, of course, comes with downsides and trade-offs. 

Most people’s biggest concerns are "getting hacked," which, when you get down to it, really means "being robbed in ways I don’t quite understand." But that’s one of those risks that, although very real, is unlikely to happen if you take the usual precautions.

In a time when personal information is said to be worth more than oil, bad actors are often interested in getting their hands on your personal data as much as your money. And a "bad actor" need not be some guy with his hood up, hunched over a laptop in the back of a coffee shop. 

In 2024, for example, ClassAction.org reported on suspicions of major cruise lines illegally sharing consumers’ data with Facebook. Cruise lines RoyalCaribbean.com, CelebrityCruises.com, Princess.com and HollandAmerica.com are suspected of collecting personal information through the sneaky "Meta tracking pixel" and sending it to Facebook without users’ consent. 

Booking.com, a site most of us have used at one time or another, has also had its fair share of problems. The website has been battling waves of hacking attacks aimed at defrauding its customers; it’s faced accusations of not doing enough to protect its customers and has even been fined for failing to disclose a data breach on time. 

Data gathered from these kinds of incidents often ends up circulating online, being added to what was already out there before, just waiting for someone or some company to make use of it.

THE BEST TRAVEL GEAR FOR 2025

Avoiding cruise lines and booking sites altogether is hardly a practical solution when you need to book a cruise or accommodation. Here are some things you can do to dramatically reduce the risk when booking flights, cruises, vehicles and accommodation.

1. Invest in personal data removal services: While no service promises to remove all your data from the internet, having a removal service is great if you want to constantly monitor and automate the process of removing your information from hundreds of sites continuously over a longer period of time. Check out my top picks for data removal services here.

2. Use personal security caution: Don't sign in to anything using your social media accounts. Sign in with your email instead and be sure to use an email address you've set aside just for these kinds of situations.

3. Do your homework online: Do an online search for the booking website, cruise line or travel agency in question, keeping an eye out for any recent reports of scams or other issues.

4. Check company reputation carefully: Check ClassAction.org, the Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot specifically. This will help you gain comprehensive insights into a company's track record, customer experiences and potential issues.

5. Verify communication legitimacy: Whenever you receive a call, email or text message from a booking service, confirm that it's really them by first checking your account directly and then contacting the company through official, publicly listed channels (not social media).

BEST TRAVEL ADAPTERS OF 2025

Here are some of the "usual precautions" that can protect you from "getting hacked" while traveling.

1. Update all your apps and operating systems before heading off: All those security patches are that much more important while you're traveling. You'll want to download and install all pending updates at least 24-48 hours before your departure, ensuring you have the latest security protections and giving yourself time to troubleshoot any potential update-related issues that might arise. 

2. Lock everything down: Use strong, unique passwords and a reliable password manager to keep track of them.

3. Turn on two-factor authentication where available: Prioritize using authenticator apps over SMS-based codes. This provides a more secure second layer of verification, as authenticator apps are less vulnerable to SIM swapping attacks and interception compared to text message-based authentication. Choose reputable authenticator apps, which generate time-based one-time passwords that change frequently and are tied directly to your device.

4. Keep location services turned off: NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi should also be turned off while you’re not using them. That’ll make your battery last longer as a side benefit.

5. Go dark: Don’t publicly share news of your trip until you’re back. Avoid posting about your vacation on social media or keeping a blog about your adventures, as this information can be used by criminals to piece together a snapshot of your life.

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?

6. Limit social media use: Scammers and hackers often exploit social media to gather personal information and target travelers. To stay secure, avoid sharing trip details publicly and use a privacy-focused messaging app like Signal to stay in touch with family and friends.

7. Use privacy-focused browsers: You should consider using browsers like Brave or Firefox with privacy extensions. Enabling "do not track" settings and utilizing private/incognito mode can provide an extra layer of digital protection.

8. Disable automatic Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections: Disable settings that automatically connect to networks and manually select and verify networks before connecting. This prevents your device from inadvertently joining potentially unsecured networks.

9. Use encrypted messaging and email: Protect your private communications by using services that offer end-to-end encryption for both messaging and email. 10. Travel with minimal digital gear: Consider bringing a "travel-only" phone or laptop with minimal personal data.

11. Be cautious of public charging stations: Avoid using public USB charging ports that could potentially compromise your device. Instead, carry a portable phone charger with you.

12. Monitor your accounts: Set up transaction alerts on financial accounts and use credit cards with strong fraud protection. Regularly check your accounts while traveling to quickly detect any suspicious activity.

13. Bring your own internet access with you: Find a local or international SIM, a mobile hot spot and a trusted VPN (virtual private network) service for those times you can’t help but use public Wi-Fi. Using a VPN can enhance your privacy by encrypting your internet traffic, making it harder for hackers and third parties to intercept your data, especially on public Wi-Fi. A VPN masks your IP address, helping to obscure your location and online activity. While VPNs don’t directly prevent phishing emails, they reduce the exposure of your browsing habits to trackers that may use this data maliciously. Whoosh isn't your typical gondola or cable car system. While it may look similar at first glance, this clever Kiwi invention offers a unique blend of on-demand service, direct routing and privacy that sets it apart from traditional public transportation. Unlike fixed-route gondolas, Whoosh pods are equipped with their own motors and autonomous navigation systems. This allows them to freely traverse a complex network of cables and rails, choosing the most efficient path from one point to another without intermediate stops.

They successfully launched the first-ever commercial driverless trucking operation.

Kodiak Robotics has become the first company globally to deliver a driverless semi-truck to a customer while also being the first to generate ongoing revenue from driverless trucks. Atlas Energy Solutions, in turn, has made history as the first customer to launch a commercial delivery operation using driverless semi-trucks.

Don Burnette, founder and CEO of Kodiak Robotics, tells CyberGuy, "Through this partnership, we are providing a critical service to Atlas, helping them to provide freight service in one of America’s most difficult trucking environments."

A passenger on board a United Airlines flight from Houston to New York captured wild video of the wing of the plane catching on fire during takeoff Sunday morning. 

Passengers and crew on United Airlines Flight 1382 were evacuated off the plane at George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport due to a "reported engine issue," the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed in a statement to Fox News Digital.

United Airlines also confirmed the incident and issued a statement saying that just after 8:30 a.m., on Sunday, Feb. 2, the crew of United Airlines Flight 1382 safely aborted its takeoff from the George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport in Texas due to a reported "engine issue."

A passenger on board the flight shared a video, obtained by FOX 26, of the chaos that happened inside the plane after seeing fire on the wing from a window.

"No, it's on fire," a passenger can be heard yelling.

"Oh my God, please, please get us out of here," another passenger can be heard saying.

The airline said passengers were deplaned on the runway via a combination of slides and stairs and were bused to the terminal. 

The Houston Fire Department also responded to the incident as part of safety protocols and assisted in deboarding passengers. They did not put out the fire and said it was already out when units arrived on the scene.

Officials said there were no injuries and all passengers were moved to another plane to continue to their destination.

The plane, an Airbus A318, was traveling to New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) with 104 passengers and five crew members, the airline confirmed.

The FAA said it will investigate the incident. 

The driver of an aircraft tug was sent to the hospital in critical condition after an incident at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago on Saturday, according to the Chicago Police Department. 

The wing of the aircraft struck the tug vehicle as the plane was taxiing to the gate, police said.

The passenger plane was operated by American Airlines under American Eagle Flight 6181, the airline confirmed to Fox News Digital in a statement.

"Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and team members, and we are reviewing this incident," American Airlines said.

AMERICAN AIRLINES WORKER KILLED IN CHARLOTTE AIRPORT VEHICLE ACCIDENT

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also confirmed the tug was reportedly crossing the taxiway when it was hit by a Bombardier CRJ-200, which flew from Kalamazoo Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan.

Upon contact, the tug vehicle flipped over and pinned its 64-year-old male driver, whose name has not been released, according to the police. The driver was later taken to Lutheran General Hospital with head and lower body injuries but is now stable.

United Airlines also confirmed that the tug driver was one of its employees.

"We are ensuring he receives any necessary support and care," United Airlines said in a statement.

No other customers or crew members were injured in the incident, police said. 

The FAA also stated that the passengers were deplaned safely and bussed to the terminal.

The investigation is ongoing.

The incident at the Chicago airport occurred just days after another one that led to the death of an American Airlines worker at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina. 

That incident, which occurred on Monday, involved an airline ramp vehicle, the airport told Fox News Digital in a statement, but no additional details were immediately given.

Southwest, Delta and more major airlines have scheduled additional flights for fans traveling for Super Bowl LIX, as the costs of airfare and hotel stays rise in the game's host city of New Orleans.

Southwest recently announced 31 new flights from Kansas City and Philadelphia to New Orleans.

The cost of Southwest's flights vary, depending on the arrival date, but 15 flights to the Super Bowl city from the Chiefs' and Eagles' home base have been added, along with 16 return flights from New Orleans to Kansas City and Philadelphia, according to Southwest.com.

The highest-priced tickets to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport include a nonstop flight from Kansas City, costing $798, and another business class ticket with a layover in Dallas, Texas, for $848 on Saturday, according to Southwest's website.

Delta also added flights in time for the NFL's championship game with first-class tickets exceeding $4,000.

Delta's additional flights will cater to more than 1,300 passengers, officials with the airline announced on Delta's website. Prices range from $400 to $700 or more, depending on departure dates.

Fox News Digital reached out to Delta for comment.

Prices will dip 50% or more for most flight dates after the game, according to Delta's and Southwest's online fare calendars for 2025.

Other flights from Kansas City to New Orleans on Feb. 9, Super Bowl Sunday, are priced around $300 to nearly $700, for those hoping to make it to the game just in time for kick off.

"Last year alone, Southwest added 341 extra flights, supporting a whopping 61 events, such as the Kentucky Derby and college football games," The Points Guy, a New York-based travel blog, reported.

A Southwest spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the airline is "excited to welcome Philadelphia and Kansas City fans on our extra flights as they travel to and from New Orleans."

"Additionally, some of our flight numbers have Easter eggs such as Flight #3 from Kansas City to New Orleans (potential for a three-peat), Flights 15 and 87 for Chiefs players, and we have some from Philly too with the same numbers of their players including flights #1, #26, and #11."

United and American Airlines have also added additional flights, and are including "Easter eggs for Chiefs and Eagles fans," according to Nola.com.

As for overnight bookings, motel and hotel prices range from $550 to $4,700 or more for a two-night stay during Super Bowl weekend.

More than two dozen hotels are booked from Feb. 8 to Feb. 10, according to Hotels.com search results. Prices will decrease, and availability appears to return to normal towards the end of February.

For travelers who are looking for the full experience, ticket packages that include hotel accommodations are listed for sale through the Chiefs' and Eagles' partnership with On Location, the Official Hospitality Provider of the NFL.

One package, which includes an official game ticket and "pregame hospitality," is currently sold out online.

Other options with a starting price of $7,005 per person are still available.

The building that formerly housed the "Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser" at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, will be repurposed as office space, the company confirmed to local Orlando media.

Reports began swirling at the end of January that the building for the shuttered hotel would get new life as an office space, multiple sources reported.

Disney confirmed to WESH 2, an Orlando outlet, that its "Imagineering" department would be taking up residence in the space and that the move had been in the works since October.

It is unclear when the renovation work will begin or when the employees will move into the space.

"Walt Disney Imagineering is the creative engine that designs and builds all Disney theme parks, resorts, attractions, and cruise ships worldwide, and oversees the creative aspects of Disney games, merchandise product development, and publishing businesses," said Disney's website. 

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was a two-night experience that was akin to a traditional cruise. 

Guests on the Galactic Starcruiser were immersed in a story that played out during their stay.

The 100-room hotel opened in March 2022, after many delays.

In May 2023, Disney announced that the Starcruiser would take its final "voyage" at the end of September. 

The Galactic Starcruiser was praised for its storytelling and experience, but faced criticism over its price structure.

Rates for a two-person "cabin" on the Starcruiser started at nearly $5,000. 

A four-person cabin was $6,000, FOX Business previously reported.

In addition to two nights in the hotel room, the rate included entertainment, meals and an "excursion" to Disney's Hollywood Studios. 

After the announced closure, Star Wars fans were hopeful that the building would remain as an attraction in some form. 

In a June 2023 interview with travel website The Points Guy, Josh D'Amaro, the chairman of Disney Experiences, said that "something will happen" with the building, but remained mum on what that would entail. 

About six months later, in Jan. 2024, a permit for "general construction" at the site of the former hotel was filed by Disney. 

The Washington Wizards held a moment of silence Thursday for the victims of the deadly crash involving a passenger jet and an Army helicopter near Reagan National Airport.

The Wizards hosted the Los Angeles Lakers at the Capital One Arena, and it was the first sporting event in D.C. since Wednesday night's crash.

The Wizards had a message on their jumbotron before the game began.

An American Airlines jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter, which was carrying three soldiers. All airline passengers and soldiers were presumed dead.

At least 14 members of the figure skating community were on board the plane. Six people with ties to the Skating Club of Boston were among them.

The Washington Commanders and Washington Nationals also paid tribute to those who lost their lives and showed their support for the first responders who sprang into action to find any potential survivors and recover bodies from the Potomac River.

U.S. ice skater Anton Spiridonov refuted claims suggesting he was on board the commercial jet that collided in midair with an Army helicopter Wednesday night near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

"Russian news outlets have included me on a list of presumed people on the flight from Wichita to Washington D.C.," the skater shared on Instagram. 

"I was NOT on this flight, thank you for everyone’s concern for my safety. My heart goes out to all the families affected by this tragedy."

Spiridonov won the silver medal at the World University Games in 2023. He also finished sixth at the U.S. Championships that same year. Spiridonov also paid tribute to his father's former "skating partner," Inna Volyanskaya.

Flight 5342 carried 60 passengers and four crew members, according to a statement from American Airlines. The flight took off from an airport in Wichita, Kansas.

Authorities confirmed there were three U.S. service members aboard the Army Black Hawk helicopter when the aircraft departed Davison Army Airfield at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. The airfield is located about 15 miles southwest of Reagan Washington National.

The passenger jet and the military helicopter both crashed into the Potomac River as the commercial plane was approaching one of the airport runways. In a news conference Thursday morning, officials confirmed that 27 bodies from the plane and one from the Black Hawk helicopter had been pulled from the frigid waters.

U.S. Figure Skating released a statement confirming that "several members of our skating community" were aboard the flight. The organization said they were returning home from a development camp after the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas, which concluded Sunday.

As the United States beefs up security at its southern border as part of the Trump administration's illegal immigration crackdown, the State Department has issued the highest-level travel advisory for a specific region of northeastern Mexico near McAllen and Brownsville, Texas.

Amid gun battles, kidnappings and other crime, the State Department is also warning of IEDs on dirt roads in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.

"[T]he state of Tamaulipas has issued a warning to avoid moving or touching improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which have been found in and around the area of Reynosa, Rio Bravo, Valle Hermoso, and San Fernando along dirt and secondary roads," a State Department travel advisory for Tamaulipas reads. "IEDs are being increasingly manufactured and used by criminal organizations in this region."

The U.S. Consulate in Mexico notes in the advisory that an IED destroyed an official Mexican government vehicle in Rio Bravo on Jan. 23, injuring its occupant. 

A Spanish flier published by the Tamaulipas government on Facebook urges the public not to touch or move suspicious-looking devices along the roadside.

MEXICO DENIES ACCESS TO LAND FOR US DEPORTATION FLIGHT AFTER MISCOMMUNICATION, STATE DEPT. OFFICIAL SAYS

U.S. government employees are prohibited from traveling "in and around Reynosa and Rio Bravo outside of daylight hours and to avoid dirt roads throughout Tamaulipas," the advisory states.

Government employees also cannot travel between cities in Tamaulipas using interior Mexican highways.

"Travel advisory Level 4 is the highest level there is," said former DEA Senior Special Agent Michael Brown, currently the global director of counter-narcotics technology at Rigaku Analytical Devices. "That's a warning: Do not go there. I have experienced that, but it was in countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia. … The area we're talking about is the state of Tamaulipas, within which you have Reynosa and Matamoros, which have a history of extreme violence in Mexico."

Brown said that what he suspects is happening is "with the sudden end of the Biden-Harris open-border policies, the cartels are no longer making billions of dollars in human trafficking."

"Now that area has been reduced significantly, meaning cartels, which may have been working together up to a week ago, are now competing for access to Reynosa and Matamoros because human smuggling is not going to stop, it's just going to be more expensive, more dangerous, and they're going to have to use traffickers, are going to have to use more selective routes in order to get around Border Patrol and … perhaps U.S. military."

The 32-year former DEA agent added that cartels using IEDs "are simply mimicking what they've seen other hostile elements do across the world … to counter other cartel movements, truck convoys, human traffickers that may be trying to sneak on to their territory."

"[U]nder the last four years of the Biden-Harris administration, nothing was done. The cartels were given carte blanche access to the United States through the open-border system. Now that's been cut off, and they've been designated as terrorist organizations," Brown said.

‘NATIONAL EMERGENCY’: TRUMP DECLARES AMBITIOUS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN IN INAUGURAL ADDRESS

The State Department has issued a Level 4 advisory for the area due to crime and kidnapping threats. Travelers are encouraged to avoid dirt roads, unknown objects near roads and travel after dark.

"Common" organized criminal activity in the area includes gun battles, murder, armed robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, forced disappearances, extortion and sexual assault. 

The recent immigration policy changes affecting cartel networks' financial success also pose a significant threat to Americans, U.S. law enforcement and military members living or stationed near the border, Brown said.

"As cartel members … come across the border with narcotics for human trafficking. Now they're armed and they're ready for conflict. They run into Border Patrol, they run into the Texas Rangers or DEA. There could be a gunfight," Brown said. "So if you're a citizen living on that border, you know that that Level 4 just doesn't stop [the violence], and we know it's going to cross the border with those trafficking individuals."

Of the millions of illegal immigrants who crossed into the United States over the last four years, "[E]ach one of those migrants had to pay a toll to a cartel or to smaller groups," Brown said. "So we're talking about billions of dollars for the last four years with absolutely no effort whatsoever on the part of the cartels."

TRUMP GOES TOE-TO-TOE WITH SANCTUARY CITIES OVER DEPORTATION AS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN SET TO BEGIN

The State Department noted in its advisory that heavily armed criminal groups often target certain areas and target "public and private passenger buses, as well as private automobiles traveling through Tamaulipas, often taking passengers and demanding ransom payments." 

The Level 4 warning comes as the Trump administration begins its crackdown on illegal immigration and crime at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Brown compared the level of violence in Tamaulipas to the Middle East.

"[It] wasn't that long ago before [the] Sinaloa Cartel was executing police officers and hanging them from bridges," Brown said. "Now, we didn't even see that level of violence in Afghanistan when I was there. So, the cartels have taken violence to a whole other level. They are acting just like any terrorist organization. The only difference is their end goal is to make money. That's their ideology."

Officials deported around 2,000 illegal immigrants to Mexico last Thursday, both on the ground and in the air. Mexican officials detained roughly 5,000 migrants within its borders, Fox News reported. 

Trump also ordered 1,500 active-duty troops to the southern border to boost the military presence there.

Some planes may have more than the usual amount of legroom — giving passengers an entire seat space of room due to placement near the exit door.

One flight passenger recently posted an interesting dilemma on the "r/delta" Reddit forum. The person shared that he or she was sitting in a window seat with no seat in front of them — allowing a two-row distance of extra space.

"Seat 29F on a 757 has no seat in front of it. It’s just 28D and 28E because of the exit door," the person wrote. "The seat is great for extra legroom on flights where I’m not getting upgraded."

The user went on, "The person in 28E used the under-seat storage on 27F and this person even used the entertainment system to display the flight tracker while she watched a movie on the seat directly in front of her."

Fox News Digital reached out to both the Reddit user and Delta Air Lines for comment.

"I had planned on throwing my bag underneath the seat in front of me and using my wireless adapter to connect the entertainment center to my headphones," the person added. 

A photo shared with the post showed the fellow passenger looking at both monitors with her bag underneath the seat in front of the poster.

Not being able to use the monitor in front, the user then asked, "Who gets the space and the entertainment center for this seat?"

Reddit users took to the comments section to share thoughts and tips as well. 

"You get the space and TV on the seat directly in front of you," declared one.

Another agreed, adding, "It’s your space."

"That looks like your monitor, honestly. They have one already," commented a user.

One said, "That space is supposed to be yours. End of story."

"That is your space. Ask them to move it. I am the most nonconfrontational person I know, and I have asked many people to do this," suggested one user.

Another shared, "If you don't want to ask them to move their bag, one thing you can do is place your bag in your foot space during the preflight checks."

"When the FA [flight attendant] asks you to stow it, you can point to the bag that's under the seat in front of you," added the user. 

California-based etiquette expert Rosalinda Randall told Fox News Digital, "It would seem logical to use the screen and space underneath the seat in front of you."

She shared that the Reddit user could call the flight attendant to settle the issue or "forget about it and store your belongings in the [overhead] bin."

"In a non-accusatory manner, [the person could] say something like, 'It's a bit confusing, but that is my designated space.' Or, 'Are these yours? Sorry, but it looks like I'm going to need my space,'" Randall added.

"You've got to have great eye vision to view the screen from a two-row distance. If it's an older plane where the volume and channel buttons are on the armrest, then they couldn't be using your screen," said Randall.

She also said that once the plane was in the air, the user could simply reach the screen and select the preferred movie. 

"Safety and civility should always be our approach and main concern," said Randall.

Randall added, "In today's easily sparked society, giving up a small space underneath a seat may be the better decision." 

While many Americans opt for destinations by air, a new report reveals a record-breaking number of people will be seeking trips on the high seas this year.

Last year, 18.2 million travelers went on cruises, according to the report. 

"What we’re witnessing in the cruise industry is nothing short of amazing, but it’s no surprise. There’s a reason most first-time cruise passengers become repeat cruisers," said Stacey Barber, vice president of AAA Travel, in a press release.

Barber added, "Cruise vacations offer something for everyone, no matter their age."

"And because most of the vacation is already paid for," he said, "travelers can focus on enjoying themselves and making lifelong memories with loved ones."

The cruise forecast report found that 72% of passengers are heading to Caribbean destinations in search of sunny vacation times.

Six percent plan on heading to Alaska, while 5% of people will be cruising in the Mediterranean, according to the report. 

The report also found a rising interest among travelers in taking shorter cruises that last two to five days. 

While most cruises run six to eight days, 18% of Caribbean cruise itineraries this year are shorter cruises — compared to just 2% in 2023.

Hackers use all kinds of sneaky tactics to hijack your privacy in flight. One thing in their favor: VPNs are more likely to drop in and out in the air than on the ground. (More on that below.)

Without that layer of protection, cybercriminals using the same airline Wi-Fi can easily tap into your devices, access your information and spread malware.

"S" for security: Only visit encrypted websites — the ones that start with "HTTPS" (that "S" is important!). In general, this blocks a hacker from viewing your activity on a given site, like the password or credit card number you typed in.

Beware of AirDrop: Keyloggers keep track of every single thing you type, and criminals love to pass them along using Apple’s AirDrop feature. Don’t accept drops from strangers in flight. Steps here to disable or limit AirDrop if you need help.

Name game: Crooks can create fake Wi-Fi networks with almost identical names to the airline’s. If you’re not careful, you could plug into a copycat network instead of the legit one.

I know you’re not going to skip the Wi-Fi altogether. That’s OK, just be smart about it.

Update everything: Before you hit the road, make sure your phone, computer, tablet, smartwatch and any other connected devices are running the latest software. Steps here for Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android. Updates often include critical security patches that protect against the new threats. Don’t forget to update your apps, too.

Add a layer of security: A Virtual Private Network (VPN) encrypts your internet connection. Before accessing anything sensitive, like your email, online banking or shopping accounts, turn on your VPN. Double-check its status to ensure it’s actively protecting your connection. It should display as "connected" or "secured."

Verify names. If you notice multiple Wi-Fi networks with similar names, check with the airline staff and confirm which is the right one.

Use 2FA: For any account tied to financial information or personal details, two-factor authentication is a must. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step, like a code sent to your phone or email, after entering your password. Set this up for all accounts with ties to your finances to reduce the risk of unauthorized access.

Secure your devices. Invest in antivirus and malware-protection software, and keep your devices physically secure. Avoid leaving your phone, tablet or laptop unattended, even for a moment.

Stop looky loos. Get a privacy screen for your laptop to prevent nearby shoulder snooping.

Bonus: Don’t post pics of your boarding pass or other travel docs

You’re excited, waiting for the plane. What’s the harm in posting a pic of your boarding pass? A whole lot. Boarding passes display your full legal name, ticket number and passenger name record. That six-digit code plus your last name gives anyone access to your booking information online.

The same goes for your license, passport, visa or other identification documents. Thieves keep an eye out for any detail they can use.

Air travel has certainly changed over time, and an occasion that once mandated dressing smartly has become considerably more casual. 

Recently, Spirit Airlines issued a new dress code for its flight passengers, after several news-making instances regarding customers being removed from flights due to their attire.

Now, customers on Spirit Airlines are subject to being removed from flights if they are "barefoot or inadequately clothed (i.e., see-through clothing; not adequately covered; exposed breasts, buttocks, or other private parts), or whose clothing or article, including body art, is lewd, obscene or offensive in nature."

Here are some other rules that airlines have regarding clothing. 

Passengers on Hawaiian Airlines are prohibited from wearing bathing suits, and "clothing must cover the upper part of the torso," says its contract of carriage. 

Shorts are fine, but "speedos and bikini bottoms are not allowed," said Hawaiian Airlines. And bare feet are not OK either.

"In all cases, clothing must not be lewd, obscene or patently offensive to others," said Hawaiian Airlines. 

Southwest Airlines passengers cannot wear clothes that are "lewd, obscene or patently offensive," and passengers must wear shoes. 

Similarly to Southwest, passengers on United have a pretty loose dress code. 

United Airlines' contract of carriage specifies that passengers must be "properly clothed."

Clothing cannot be "lewd, obscene or offensive" as well — and passengers have to wear shoes. 

American Airlines' code of carriage does not specify what is not allowed, but it does say that passengers have to "dress appropriately; bare feet or offensive clothing aren’t allowed." 

Delta's code of carriage does not have a specific dress code.

It does state that passengers can be removed when their "conduct, attire, hygiene or odor creates an unreasonable risk of offense or annoyance to other passengers." 

Qatar Airways has a dress code for passengers in business class and above, says its website. 

"Depending on your destination, there are different rules and regulations regarding the type of clothing you should wear. The dress code is designed to ensure passengers' comfort and safety while traveling, so it is important to understand the rules before departing," said Qatar Airways. 

This dress code prohibits shorts, sportswear and "overly revealing clothing," and business class passengers should be dressed "smart casual." 

"Passengers should pay attention to the dress code when traveling in business class, as it will ensure their comfort and respect for other passengers," said Qatar Airways.

Travelers may spend their vacation as a time to rest and reset, while others may take the opportunity to indulge in fun. 

And more people appear to be taking trips that are alcohol-free, transforming the way in which hotels cater to guests.

At the Pasea Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach, California, the staff has seen a 25% year-over-year increase in non-alcoholic beverage sales.

"As we see a growing focus on healthier lifestyle choices from travelers, the surgeon general’s recent warning highlights the evolving expectations within the hospitality industry," Pasea Regional General Manager Paul Maddison told Fox News Digital.

Maddison added, "We believe the industry as a whole will continue to innovate in ways that prioritize both health and high-quality experiences."

Earlier this month, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy issued a new advisory linking alcohol to seven different types of cancer.

"Alcohol is a well-established, preventable cause of cancer responsible for about 100,000 cases of cancer and 20,000 cancer deaths annually in the United States," said Murthy in the advisory.

He added that the majority of Americans are unaware of this risk.   

Alain Negueloua, vice president and general manager at the Bardessono Hotel & Spa in Napa Valley, California, told Fox News Digital that there's been a positive response to the hotel's alcohol-free concierge service.

"This shift reflects a larger industry trend where hotels are leaning into inclusive experiences that cater to every guest's individual needs. We believe this change will not only improve the guest experience but also encourage a more balanced, mindful approach to travel overall," said Negueloua. 

More than 220 million Americans over the age of 12 have reported drinking alcohol at some point in their life, with 16.4% reporting they drank heavily, according to the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH).

For adults ages 18 and older, 23%, or 60.4 million, reported that they were binge-drinking, according to the NSDUH. 

Sober travel, also known as "dry tripping," was one of 2024’s hottest vacation trends, according to Hotels.com, with more than 40% of travelers saying they are likely to book a detox trip in the next year.

A NSDUH spokesperson told Fox News Digital that reviews mentioning "mocktails" surged by 50% year over year, "with guests raving about the creative nonalcoholic offerings at top hotels worldwide."

Bobbie Peppers, general manager of The Memphian in Memphis, Tennessee, told Fox News Digital that there has been a growing interest in more mindful drinking options. 

"The surgeon general's recent guidance highlights the value of offering creative non-alcoholic alternatives. To meet this interest, we’ve introduced a thoughtfully curated mocktail menu and events like a non-alcoholic, three-course meal experience to adapt to changing guest preferences while promoting balance and wellness," said Peppers.
